إنّ مدحي لخالد بن الوليدِ

مثل مدحٍ لوالدٍ من وليدِ

My praise of Khalid ibn al-Walid

Is like praising a father from Walid

كيف لا وهو فيصلٌ قلّد الدي

نَ من الفتح درَّ عقدٍ نضيد

How not, when he is the decider who wore

The necklace of conquest, a precious bead

منّةٌ منه في نحور البرايا

نظمها سابقٌ بفعلٍ حميد

A blessing from him in the breasts of deserts

Placed by the doer of a praiseworthy deed

صاحبُ المظهر السعيد الّذي شي

يدَ ركن العلا برأيٍ سديد

The owner of the auspicious appearance that adorned

The pillar of supremacy with opinions right and lead

وهو قرم الوغى السميذع صمصما

م حمى المجد ذو الفرند الفريد

That is the sword of God, fierce in the din of war

Protecting the glory that unique glory does feed

ذاك سيف الإله ذو الفتح يبدي

برقَ سفكٍ في جيد كلّ عنيد

That is the sword of openings showing

Flashes of shedding in the necks of each stubborn steed

قصبَ السبق حاز في حلبة الحر

ب وأضحي بها أجلّ مبيد

He took the lead and won in the field of war

Sacrificing it with the most noble bloodshed

فالعوالي بعزمه شاهداتٌ

وظُبا البيض في جبالٍ وبيد

By his determination, the heights bear witness

As do the white mountain goats in the mountains and reed

سطواتٌ من العزائم لم يب

لغ مداها بالفعل بأسُ الحديد

Raids of determination that did not

Reveal their extent by the might of iron at speed

كم له في كُلَى الأعادي كِلامٌ

بكَلامٍ من لفظ فتكٍ مفيد

How many words against the enemies in his kidneys

Useful words of lethal utterance that succeed

فعله معرَبٌ بناه على الفت

ح لرفع الإسلام بالتوكيد

His action Arabized, built on conquest

To lift Islam, confirmation without misdeed

كعبةٌ عندها الجحاجحُ حجّت

ثمّ طافت بركن عزمٍ شديد

The Kaaba, by it the multitudes argue

Then circled the firm pillar of force, indeed
