You rose for me, oh full moon, in my sitting place,

Since my heart became your sky,

    Every beauty shone clearly,

    Borrowed from your brilliance.

With it, the yearning heart was absent,

    Vanished in ecstasy from existence.

And the one who died of love for you,

    My soul ransomed you.

The deprivation in love was sweet to me,

    O bright full moon.

You are paradise to my heart,

While it is in the blazing hell.

    Strangely, though gratified,

It warms itself with that firewood.

You are in it and it is a shadow,

    Turning, seeking your approval.

    Every beauty has appeared,

From the essence of beauty itself.

    In Suleima or in Sa'ada,

So from beauty it shone brighter.

That which a lovesick one saw,

In a meadow or on a hill,

Shone like a lamp, but only

In your mirrors he saw you.

O springtime of the heart, would that

My eyes be allowed to look upon you.

If there is a revelation for the heart,

Who can enable my eyes to see you?

So be generous to my hearing,

    After releasing constraints,

    Saying "welcome, welcome,"

    Hearing all your call.

    And bless the Chosen One,

    Then greet with peace,

    Our Lord, Glorious and Exalted,

    And the Noble Family.

He who is enamored with you became,

Singing from the heat of rebuff.

    O crescent moon shining clearly

Above a branch - from where I saw you!
