Peace be upon you, my beautiful Buthaina

My beloved Ibrahim, delight of my soul

And if you ask after me, like I were your own eye

Then morning breeze will inform you of my intense love

You don’t have what we have, as I

Protect you from the fires of my passion and torment

The sparks of love's longing have ignited

With the water of my affairs in passion before my birth

I declined and my restless nightingale, my torment

For you, do I enjoy any favor with fate?

We stayed up in Nu’man and you slept in Babylon

So this is not how loyalty rules for lovers

I perished longing in my life and regret

And the remnant of sorrow left me no respite

Ask, did my heart fulfill the pact of love and did

My sad eyes taste it and inscribe on my eyelids?

So I implore you, what is the way to meet

While the sands of Zarud are barriers before my craving

Maybe the white nights will string our necklace

And we will be as we were in the best union

So scattering the nights necessitates stringing them

With the finest wire in a wondrous necklace

We will enjoy closeness while the slanderers are heedless

Of fate and the spy at a moment of ignorance

So say to the one who strayed confused in bewilderment’s desert:

“Peace of God be upon you” and repel him with that
