  1. ردّ في الهوى صافي دنّي

    فقد تصفى زلاله

    My inner self is pure and clear,

    For its turbidity has settled,

  2. وارو الهوى صاح عنّي

    فقد عنَت لي رجاله

    And the desires of passion revived me,

    For its men have helped me.

  3. ومذهب العشق فنّي

    لديّ حُطّت رحاله

    The path of love refined me,

    Its burdens unloaded from me.

  4. اشطح غراماً فإنّي

    إلى المشوق ثماله

    Passionately lovestruck am I,

    For the beloved summoned me.

  5. أنا الّذي حبل ودّي

    من عروة الكلّ أوثق

    I who have tied my love

    To the strongest bond.

  6. وفي الهوى بتّ وحدي

    إمام من رام يعشق

    And in love alone I live,

    A leader for those who love.

  7. فاحفظ أخا الشوق عهدي

    تسقَ المدام المروّق

    So keep, o brother of longing, my vow

    And serve the delicious wine,

  8. لعلّ حلو التثنّي

    إن مرّ يحلو وصاله

    That the sweet talk may be pleasant,

    If union is realized.

  9. يا صاح صح بالصبابه

    واطرح ملام العواذل

    O companion call out with joy

    And discard the blaming of the separatists,

  10. والحبّ اشرب شرابه

    فذاك عذب المناهل

    And drink the wine of love

    For that is the sweetest springs.

  11. واقطع جميع القرابه

    عسى الحبيب يواصل

    And sever all kinship,

    That the beloved may join.

  12. ليس الهوى بالتمنّي

    فالحبّ صعبٌ مناله

    Longing is no use,

    For love is hard to attain.

  13. ذب في الجمال غراما

    واصبُ إذا ما تبدّى

    Melt in passion for beauty,

    And stay up if it shows itself.

  14. وعف بوجد مناما

    وبدّل النوم سهدا

    Sleep soundly if passion comes by

    And replace sleep with wakefulness.

  15. لعاذلٍ قل سلاما

    إذا العذول تصدّى

    To one who blames, say hello,

    If he starts blaming.

  16. صرّح بذا لا تكنِّ

    إذا تجلّى جماله

    Proclaim this, do not hide it,

    If his beauty reveals itself.
