  1. إنّ السماع سماع الناي والوتر

    يا نفس لا تسمعي من غيره وتري

    Hearkening to the flute and lute's song

    O soul, hear naught but their strings along

  2. فإنّه فيض عهدٍ من ألستُ بلى

    يسقي نفوس أراضي الناس كالمطر

    For it is a covenant's overflow

    That waters souls like rain drops sow

  3. فإن يكن في النفوس الخبث أنبته

    فيخرج النبت في نكدٍ وفي كدر

    Should vileness in the souls take root

    It sprouts and grows in grief and cark

  4. وفاح ريح خبيثٍ من أزاهره

    وبالشقاء له نوعٍ من الثمر

    Exhaling from its flowers foul reek

    Its fruit is sorrow, drear and dark

  5. وإن يكن في النفوس الطيب فاح لهم

    راحٌ وريحان روض طابَ بالزهر

    But if goodness the souls imbue

    Their garden blooms fragrant anew

  6. ومنه تعبق أرواحٌ يفوح لها

    بين البريّة ريّا عنبرٍ عطر

    From it waft spirits redolent

    Sweet amber through the wilds relent

  7. فاكشف بعقلك عمّا أنت فيه وكن

    لمشهد الحقّ في الأشياء ذا نظر

    So with your reason pierce the veil

    And see the truth in details hail

  8. وحقّق الفرق في جمع الشهود ودم

    من التباس أمور النفس في حذر

    Distinguish in this witness meed

    From muddied waters your soul lead

  9. وكلّ من قال بالتحريم مقصده

    بيان حكمٍ إلهيٍّ على الصور

    Who judgement passed in probation

    Made clear a divine ordination

  10. إذ كان من وصفها خبثٌ وملحظه

    تحذير ذي الخبث من مستحكم الشرر

    Whose essence vileness did evince

    To warn the vile from vice's prince

  11. ومن يقل فيه بالتحليل فهو على

    نور من الله في الأحكام ذو بصر

    And they who lawful did proclaim

    Are with God's wisdom lit aflame

  12. يقول بالحقّ إذ يهدي السبيل إلى

    إرشاد ذي الطيب للتذكار والفكر

    Pointing to guidance, truth undraped

    The wholesome mind to ponder shaped

  13. ومقصد الكلّ في الإسلام منفعةٌ

    بما يلاحظه في الخلق من عبر

    The purpose of all in Islam's sight

    Is benefit, by wisdom's light

  14. وخُلفُهم فيه نفعٌ وهو مرحمةٌ

    حاشا بأن يقصدوا للناس من ضرر

    Where differings advantage afford

    Not to cause harm, God keep that sword

  15. فلا تُسئ في الورى ظنّاً بجهلك من

    لم تدر مدركه في القصد والوطر

    So do not think in blindness, man

    Another's aims you cannot scan

  16. وطال ما لم تطل فيالفهم وهو بذا

    حاز الكمال وعنه كنت في قصر

    Prolonged your understandings dearth

    While his perfection gave him worth

  17. أقم على نفسك الميزان معترفاً

    وحقّق الحقّ في الأحكام واعتبر

    On yourself turn measuring glass

    Truth in judgements come to pass

  18. إيّاك قولاً برجم الغيب مقتحماً

    بالجهل عن كلّ من لم تدر في البشر

    Guard your tongue from censuring free

    Those beyond your mind's narrow sea

  19. فإنّ لله في طيّ الوجود على

    عوالم الكون سرّاً غير مستتر

    For God secret in being's fold

    Worlds beyond worlds does enfold

  20. لا سيّما عالم الإنسان حاز على

    مرّ الزمان ذكيّات من الفطر

    Most specially human nature's girth

    Through time's course gave wisdom birth
