باسمك يا الله ربّي ابتدي

وبسنا نور الدعاء أهتدي

In Your name, O Allah, my Lord, I begin

And by the light of supplication I seek guidance

توسّلاً بصاحب الوسيلةْ

ذي الحوض واللواء والفضيلةْ

Pleading through the Intercessor

Of the Basin, the Banner, and Virtue

أصلِ الوجود بحر فيض المددِ

وصل الشهود المصطفى محمّدِ

Originator of existence, ocean of endless bounty

Joiner of witnessing, the Chosen One Muhammad

أرفع بالخفض أكُفّي معربا

ضمير شأني إذ بنا الفتحُ نبا

I raise through humility, I suffice being an Arab

The conscience of my condition, as victory opened through us

مستغفراً أتيت بالأسحارِ

مستمطراً غيث العطا المدرارِ

Seeking forgiveness I came at dawn

Seeking rain of endless grace

أدعوك بالنور القديم الأوّلِ

وسرّك الساري العظيم الأزلي

I call upon You by the ancient Light

And Your flowing, great, eternal secret

الأوّل الاليّ في الوجود

في المشهد الغيبيّ والشهود

The First, the Eternal in existence

In the unseen and witnessed realms

بذاتك القدسيّة العليّهْ

وبصفات مجدها الجليّهْ

By Your most sacred, most High essence

And by attributes of glorious majesty

بما لها فينا من المظاهرِ

لدى المجالي في عُلى الحضائرِ

By what they possess for us of manifestations

In the highest spheres for those brought near

من سرّ فيض باطنٍ وظاهرِ

ونور غيبٍ غائبٍ وحاضرِ

Of the secret overflow of the esoteric and the manifest

And the light of the absent, vanished and present

وباسمك السامي السماك الأسمى

وكلّ رسمٍ أبرزته الأسما

And by Your loftiest, celestial Supreme Name

And each letter displayed through the Names

بمَظهَر الأسماء في التجلّي

ومُظهِر الإيماء في التدلّي

Through manifestation of Names in revelation

And display of intimation in initiation

بمنزل الهباء من نقا اللقا

ومنهل الفناء من وِرد البقا

Through the station of annihilation in the lees of union

And the spring of extinction at the river of subsistence

بالهُوتِ باللاهوت بالناسوتِ

بمعتلى سكينة التابوت

By the Divine, the Absolute, the human

By the loftiness of the tranquility of the Ark

بعالم الأرواحِ بالملائكِ

بقائمٍ جنحَ الظلام الحالكِ

By the world of spirits, by the angels

Those who spread the darkness of the thick night

بمشهد هبّاته مجتمعهْ

أشهد كان الله لا شيء معهْ

By the scene of His annihilation in His essence

I bear witness there was nothing with Allah

وبتجلّي جاء يجلي أثرَهْ

من عينِ كنتُ سمعه وبصرَهْ

And by His manifestation He came to manifest His effect

From my essence I heard and saw Him

بخبرٍ منّا إلينا مبتدا

حديثه القديم أضحى مسندا

By the discourse that began from us to us

Its ancient narration became verified

وكان ختم المبتدا البدايهْ

وأولاً ومنتهى النهايهْ

And it was the seal of the beginning, the beginning

And the first and the end of the end

الجامع الشؤون وهو البرزخُ

مَن شرعُه المكنون حاشا ينسخُ

The Comprehensive, the Disposer, and the Barzakh

Whose ordained unseen secrets nothing abolishes

بليلة الإسراء والمعراج

بلذّة الخطاب في النتاج

By the night of ascension and lofty ascent

By the bliss of speech in intimacy

كقاب قوسين تدلّى ودنا

من المنى بقوله إنّي أنا

As two bow-lengths drawn near, He approached

From the Lote-Tree saying "It is I"

برؤية عينيّةٍ جمالا

جلَت وجلّت في العلا مثالا

By an eye-witnessing vision of beauty

Exalted and exalted in the Highest Station, for example

بسرّ ما كان من المحادثهْ

قديمةً عند اللقا وحادِثَهْ

By the secret of what passed in that conversation

Primordial in the encounter and incident

بلطف ما جاء به إلينا

مباركاً فينا كما علينا

By the grace of what He brought to us

Blessed upon us as it is over us

بالآي بالسبع من المثاني

نوراً أرانا وحدة المثاني

By the signs, the seven oft-repeated

A light He showed us and the oneness of the seven

بشمس حقٍّ من سماءٍ أشرقت

ومحقت سجفَ الردى ومزّقت

By the sun of truth from a sky shining

Obliterating the darkness of evil, tearing it

بكلّ من بنوره قد اهتدى

ومن به بجامع الرشد اقتدى

By all who are guided by its light

And all who followed the collective guidance

لا سيّما الصديق ثاني اثنينِ

من خُصّ منه بالعهود العيني

Especially the Truthful, the second of two

Specifically distinguished by intimate covenants

من عين جسر القرب والرصافه

فحاز أُولَى رتبِ الخلافه

From the wellspring of nearness and intimacy

Thus obtaining the most eminent of caliphates

بالجامع الفاروق في عرفانهِ

من دار قولُ الحقّ في لسانهِ

By the Comprehensive Farooq in his gnosis

The abode of truth upon his tongue

بذي الحيا عثمان والإيمانِ

رفيقه في غرف الجنانِ

By the long-lived Uthman of faith

His companion in the chambers of Paradise

وبابن عمّه العليّ ذي الرضا

المرتضى السيف اليماني المنتضَى

And the son of his uncle Ali the agreed

The Desired, the Yemeni Sword, the chosen

بالحسنينِ الأحسنينِ من هما

ريحانتاه لهما طيب النما

By the two finest, most excellent of them

The basil of His meadow, the scent of prestige

وسائر الصحب الكرام البررهْ

ومَن لآلي فضلهم منتشرهْ

And the rest of the honorable, righteous companions

And those graced by His outstanding merits

من أحكموا في حبّه وثقى العُرى

علماً بأنّ الصيد في جوف الفرا

Those who perfected love of Him and the firm rope

Knowing the game lies in the belly of the dust

بسالك منتظمٍ في سلكهم

وناشقٍ نفحَ ختامِ مسكهم

By each organized follower in their path

And inhaler of the seal of their musk

وكلّ تابعٍ لهم السير

وجامعٍ بهم صنوفَ الخير

And every adherent to their way

And collector through them of types of good

وبأبي حنيفةِ النعمان

شقيق روض الفضل ذي الإتقان

And Abu Hanifa the Numan

Peer of the garden of excellence, the proficient

بمالكٍ والشافعيّ حبّذا

من اقتدى بهم وعنهم أخذا

By Malik and Shafi'i, excellent

Are those who follow them and from them take

وبابن حنبل صحيح السندِ

وكلّ شهمٍ في الورى مجتهدِ

And by Ahmad of authentic chain

And each firm scholar striving

بما لنا قد أوضحوا من مسلكِ

يرقى بسالكيه أوجَ الفلكِ

By what they clarified for us of a path

Raising its wayfarers to the stars' heights

بسيّدي غوث الحمى الجيلاني

ليث الشرى ذي المشهد العياني

By my master succor of the zealous, Jilani

Lion of the law, of witnessed scene

بالبدويّ والرفاعي والدسو

قيّ بمن من العيوب قُدّسوا

By Badawi, Rifa'i, and Dasuqi

Keep safe whom from faults were sanctified

بالمحيوي ذي السرّ نجل حاتمِ

ومن لفتح الغيب خير خاتمِ

By Mahyiddin son of Hatim

And the best seal of the opening of the unseen

بالعارف النابُلُسي عبدِ الغني

روض الهبات زهرة الفتح الجني

By the knower Abdul-Ghani of Nablus

Garden of gifts, bloom of the opening's bounty

بقطب أهل الاصطفا والمعرفهْ

المصطفى مَن سبلُهُ منكشفهْ

By the Pole of the Elect and the Knowers

Mustafa whose ways are exposed

أستاذِنا البكريّ ذي الحقائقِ

من اجتنى أزاهرَ الطرائقِ

Our teacher, the Bukri, of realities

Who picked the flowers of ways

من أرتجي دون البرايا فضلَهُ

عساه يسقي نهله وعلَّهُ

Whose merits I hope for through the wilds

May he water his spring and raise it

من ورد أورادٍ لنا قد أوردت

صدر التداني بالمنى قد أسعدت

From litanies he brought, which delighted

The breast of one lowly, made happy

بنجله الكمال عمدتي الّذي

أنشقني من رشده العرفَ الشذي

By his perfection my pillar whom

Rent me by his guidance, the exceptional path

بكلّ سالكٍ على طريقتِهْ

وكلّ آخذٍ عهود بيعتِهْ

By every wayfarer upon his way

And taker of his covenants of allegiance

لا سيّما الحفنيِّ ذي الخلافهْ

مِن بعده ولم يرد خلافهْ

Especially the successor Hafni

After him none opposed his caliphate

بكلّ أصحاب الطرائق العُلى

أهل الجلا بين الملا والاجتلا

By all the folk of lofty ways

People of awe between nearness and remoteness

جد لي إلهي منك بالتوفيقِ

والصدق والسلوك في الطريقِ

Help me, my God, by facilitation

And truthfulness and wayfaring upon the path

وامنح عبيداً غيثَ فيض المددِ

ليرتدي ثوب الهدى ويهتدي

And send down, Lord, to Your servants rain of gifts

To wear the garb of guidance and be guided

وأره محاسنَ الأسفارِ

إذ تنجلي عرائس الأسحارِ

And show him the beauties of unveilings

As the brides of dawn appear

واكشف إلهي رينَهُ وحجبَهُ

حتّى يرى عند التجلّي قربَهُ

Expose him, my God, his inwardness and veils

Until he sees by theophany his nearness

ويشهد العين بغير حاجبِ

وللحمى يسير كالكواكبِ

And beholds with the eye without a screen

And to the zealous moves like stars

من قلبه افتح مقفل الأقفاصِ

كي يلق ذات الحسن في الأقفاصِ

From his heart unlock the cage of his chest

That he may find the essence of beauty in cages

وامنن عليه ربّ بالخلاصِ

من ربقة الإشراك بالإخلاصِ

And confer upon him, Lord, deliverance

From the association with pure sincerity

واعطف عليه منه بالتيسيرِ

والطف به يا ربّ في التقديرِ

And bless him, Lord, with ease

And gentleness, O Lord, in ordainment

واسلك به مسالكَ الفضائلِ

واجنبهُ فضلاً مسلك الرذائلِ

And make him tread the paths of virtues

And distinguish him by avoiding the path of vices

واحفظه في تقلّبات الدهرِ

والحظه في السرّ كذا في الجهرِ

And preserve him in the turns of fate

And destine for him secrecy and public

من كلّ ما أهمّ من غمٍّ وهمّْ

وألَمٍ به أحاط وألمّْ

From all that has surrounded with sorrow and care

And pain which has encompassed and touched

خلّصه ممّا ساء كن كافلَهُ

فأنت في أموره كافي لَهُ

Save him from what is disliked, be his protector

For You suffice in his matters as Guardian

بلّغه منّاً منك ما أمّلهُ

من كلّ خير سيّدي أمّ لهُ

Inform him favor, my Master, from You he hopes for

From every good, my Master, he yearns for

واجعله بالطاعات والعبادهْ

قد فاز بالحسنى مع الزيادهْ

And make him, by obediences and worship

Attain the beautiful favors and increase

وانظمه في سلسلة الوجودِ

ليشهد الوجودَ للموجودِ

And join him in the chain of existence

That he may witness existence for the Existent

حسن متاب أعطه ربّي كما

إليك أحسن المآبَ وانتمى

Give a beautiful repentance, my Lord, as he

Turned to You in the most beautiful returns

وصحّح الأوبة والإنابهْ

إليك حتّى يسمع الإجابهْ

And correct his penitence and turning

To You until he hears the answering

ليغدُ في حماك مستقيما

وفي رضاك أبداً مقيما

To come to Your sanctuary in rectitude

And remain in Your pleasure eternally

جنّبه ما يقصي عن التداني

من حسن مجلَى الخُرَّد الحسان

Save him from that which distances from intimacy

Of the closest servant's beautiful company

ورقّه معراج سعد الإرتِقا

واحفظه بالألطاف من درك الشقا

Raise him the ascent of the happy ascent

And preserve him by grace from the pit of misery

يا من له الشؤون في التجلّي

وحاجب العيون في التدلّي

O You of whom theophanies are manifested

And eyes are screened in occultation

ويا مفيض فيضِه المدرارِ

لمن أتى حماك بانكسارِ

O Expourer of perpetually flowing grace

Upon one who comes to You in humility

عبدٌ أتى فيضَ رضاك يسألُ

فاقبله يا من للدعاء يقبلُ

A servant came seeking Your pleasure

Accept him, O You who accepts supplications

إن لم يكن أهلاً لنيل الرحمهْ

فأنت أهلٌ للعطايا الجمّهْ

If he deserves not to obtain mercy

You are deserving to bestow bounty

عمّم بمحض الجود غيداق العطا

لجمعنا واكشف عن القلب الغطا

Include all of us in general bestowal of gifts

And expose the heart to gifts' removal of coverings

كي لا يرى الأغيار في الأكوانِ

بمقتضى شهوده الإحساني

So none see in creation, my Lord

By witnessing generosity, his beneficence

وما له في حاله من وَقْصِ

عن السوى قد أحرز التقصّي

And whatever faults his state contains

From balance has obtained rectitude

وافتح له مغالق الأبوابِ

كي يلق سرّ اليسر في الأسبابِ

And open for him the doors' closures

That he may find in causes the secret of ease

واجعل غناه من حلال الرزقِ

معمّماً بالستر بين الخلقِ

And make his independence from lawful provision

Pervasive through veiling amongst people

ولا تكلهُ للسوى في الزمنِ

فأنت ذو الإكرام مولي المنن

And do not leave him to other in life

For You are The Generous, Granter of blessings

صن وجهه من ذلة السؤالِ

وامنحه حسنَ الحال في المآلِ

Preserve his face from base begging

And grant him fair ending in the return

حسّن بفضلٍ سيّدي عواقبَهْ

وأعل جاهاً في الورى مراتبهْ

Bless, my Master, his consequences by grace

And elevate his position in the world rank after rank

واحفظه والأوالادَ والعيالا

ممّا لسوء الحال فيهم آلا

And preserve him, his children and dependents

From what decline of state has befallen them

وانهج بهم نهج التقى من بعدهِ

كيما تقرّ عينُه بوُلْدِهِ

And guide them by the path of piety after him

That his eye may be delighted with his children

لا تشمت الأعدا به إلهي

بجاه أحمد العظيم الجاهِ

Do not let enemies gloat over him, my God

For the right of Ahmed the Greatest Intercessor

سلّمه ربّنا من القطيعهْ

أورده نهل مورد الشريعهْ

Deliver him, Lord, from separation

Make him drink from the spring of the Sacred Law

واقبضه يا ربّي على الإيمانِ

أسكنه دار الخلد في الجنانِ

And take him, O my Lord, in faith

Settle him in the Abode of Eternity in the Gardens

متّعه بالعيون والآماق

بنور وجهٍ كاشفٍ عن ساقِ

Give him enjoyment through the houris and lovely wide-eyed maidens

By the light of a revealing face from a towering palace

واجعله من رفاق طه الهادي

في جنّة الخلود والإسعاد

And make him among the companions of the guiding Taha

In the immortal Garden and felicity

صلّى عليه الله ما الصبّ سعى

ممتطياً إلى الحمى عَنْقا الدُّعا

May Allah bless him as long as the twilight journeyed

Riding to zeal the neck of supplication

مسلّماً ما فاح معطارُ القبولْ

وما بدت شمول ألطاف الشمولْ

Submitting the fragrance of answered prayers

And the all-encompassing grace of all-embracing favors

وآلِه وصحبِه الأجلّهْ

زُهر النجوم هالةُ الأهلّهْ

And his Family and excellent Companions

Flowers of the stars, halos of the Family

وتابعيهم في الرشاد أبدا

ومن بنهج هديهم قد اهتدى

And their Followers upon guidance eternally

And those who by the path of his guidance were led

ما رفعت أصابع المكارمِ

بالفتح ترجو أحسنَ الخواتمِ

As long as the fingers of generosity rose

Seeking by opening the best of seals
