    والقلب في طربٍ وفي أعياد

    حيث الزمان أتى بكلّ مراد

    Watered with pouring tears

    Where time brought all desires

  5. حيث الرياض تكلّلت تيجانُها

    بجواهرٍ من زهرها المعتاد

    Where gardens were crowned

    With gems among accustomed blossoms

  6. حيث البلابل قد شدّت طرباً على

    أفنانها وتجيد بالإنشاد

    Where nightingales sang ecstatically

    On their branches, articulating melodies

  7. حيث الّذي سحر العقول بجفنه

    يحكي الغصون بقدّه الميّاد

    Where the one who enchanted minds with his eyelids

    Told of branches swaying with his supple shape

  8. رطب البنان كأنّ من ألفاظه

    راحاً لسلب العقل بالمراصاد

    His moist lips were like eloquent words

    An ambush to capture reason through cunning

  9. ختم الجمال على لآلئ ثغره

    ميماً وطرّز لحظه بالصاد

    Beauty imprinted pearls on his mouth

    Dotting his glance with the letter 'sad'

  10. ظبيٌ ولكن في الفؤاد كناسُه

    لم تكتحل أجفانُه بسواد

    A gazelle, though in the heart a cunning hunter

    Whose eyes were never darkened with kohl

  11. صاد الأسود بلحظةٍ من لحظه

    فاعجب لظبي صائد الآساد

    He hunted the black lion with a glance

    A gazelle, hunter of lions, imagine that!

  12. لم أنسه إلّا بذكر مآثر ال

    شهم النجيب سلالة الأجواد

    I forget him only by mentioning the virtues

    Of the noble, generous, heroic lineage

  13. فرد الفضائل من سما بمكارمٍ

    جلّت عن الإحصاء والتعداد

    Source of nobility, rising to the heavens

    Beyond enumeration and counting

  14. تخذ الكمال مع الفخار مكاسباً

    فسما على الآباء والأجداد

    Taking perfection and pride as gains

    Rising above fathers and forefathers

  15. سعدت به الشهبا وطال فخارها

    وبه علت مجداً على بغداد

    With him the Pleiades gained pride

    And his glory rose high over Baghdad

  16. بفصاحة ما شابها عيٌّ ولا

    لَكَنُ الأعاجم لا ولا الأكراد

    With eloquence unmatched by fault

    Not even foreigners, nor Kurds

  17. فلديه سحبانٌ يشابه باقلاً

    يذر الفصيح مكبّلاً بالضاد

    With him are clouds resembling orators

    Leaving eloquent speakers fettered by 'dad'

  18. عمر الّذي بكماله ووقاره

    وخلاله يسمو على الأنداد

    The life of the perfect and dignified one

    Exalted over all peers

  19. من آل بيتٍ شيد بالكرم الّذي

    عذبت موارده إلى الورّاد

    From a house built on generosity

    With springs flowing to those who wish

  20. لهفي على عهدٍ مضى في ربعه

    خالٍ من الأضداد والأنكاد

    Yearning for a past time in his abode

    Empty of discord and malice

  21. أيام ريعان الشبيبة مقبلٌ

    والعيش صافٍ وافر الإسعاد

    Days of youth in its prime

    With abundant joy and bliss

  22. قد جاءني منه كتابٌ منعشٌ

    أحيا النفوس به بلا ميعاد

    There came to me from him a refreshing book

    Reviving souls without promised time

  23. فخُمَت معانيه برقة لفظه

    وقضى لمنشئه بطول أيادي

    Its deep meanings graced by eloquent words

    Granting its composer long life

  24. لا زال في عزٍّ على علّاته

    متنعّماً بالأهل والأولاد

    May he remain forever exalted

    Enjoying family and children

  25. أبدا يدير لمسمعي من لفظه

    راحاً تعيد الروح للأجساد

    His words will forever comfort my hearing

    Restoring life to bodies

  26. ما أن نوى ركب الحجاز مرمّلاً

    نجدَ العراق وفاح عَرفُ النادي

    As soon as he intended heading to Hejaz

    I found Iraq and the fragrance of musk spread
