1. My prayers for you in absence are as vivid as if we were face to face,

    asking for the best and more for you,

  2. and success in every aim

    for my beloved Muhammad ibn Sa'ada.

  3. To him I send a greeting joined

    with beautiful, cherished salutations.

  4. From him a gracious letter has reached me,

    affirming that he has kept his pledge and affection.

  5. It speaks of longing for the beloved whose

    heart love for him has filled with sorrow.

  6. God has decreed separation for him,

    and he submits to the decree of divine will.

  7. Though our bodies have moved apart, our souls

    meet in the unseen, and in that lies benefit.

  8. Yet I hope we will draw near again soon,

    so that after separation I may see our reunion.

  9. Then I ask for your prayers at every moment,

    as we pray for you and regard it as worship.

  10. And for all the brothers, from every friend

    whose sincerity and loyalty have purified his devotions:

  11. May God grant their gathering the light of an opening

    that shines upon them with the seal of happiness.
