أقول لها وقد نفرت وضنَّت

زكوة الحسن فرضٌ ليس يُبكرْ

I say to her as she turns away pouting,

"Paying the alms tax on beauty is no early task;

وما أنا سائلٌ بدرات مالٍ

أجابت إنمَّا المسؤول أكثرْ

Nor do I ask streams of wealth,

But to ask more is what is expected."
