1. إذا ما المجد داريهِ الكلامُ

    فقل بالسيف ينفصل الخصامُ

    When glory's abode is speech

    Then say, with the sword disputes are severed

  2. وضراب الحسام إذا دعتهُ

    دواعي الفخر لم تخط السهامُ

    And when motives of pride call for the striking of swords

    Arrows do not miss their mark

  3. ومن نال العُلا بحد سيف

    وكان لهُ بمولاه اعتصامُ

    He who attained sublime heights with the edge of a sword

    And in his Master has sought refuge

  4. فذاك تطيع صارمهُ البرايا

    وتخشى باسمه القوم العظامُ

    His sharp blade makes the land obey

    And fear of his name overwhelms even the greatest of men

  5. وذي رايات مجدٍ منهُ لاحت

    يكللها وقارٌ واحتشامُ

    He whose banners of glory shone forth

    Adorned with dignity and reverence

  6. وقد خفقت تنادي في سرورٍ

    أيا بيروت يهنيك السلامُ

    They flutter exclaiming in joy

    O Beirut, peace wishes you well

  7. حظيت مع الهنا بعزيز مصر

    سعيدٍ للسعود بهِ هيامُ

    You were blessed with the company of mighty Egypt’s beloved

    Saeed, hearts passionate for his rule

  8. خِديوِيٌّ عزيزٌ كسرويٌّ

    شهيرٌ آصفيٌّ بل همامُ

    My Khedive, precious like a cypress

    Famed, just, nay a protector

  9. إذا ما خاض بحر الحرب يوماً

    بهِ غرقت أعاديهِ الطعامُ

    If he enters the ocean of war someday

    His enemies will drown in hunger

  10. وأن صلت سيوف في يديهِ

    يحلُّ على سلاحهم الصيامُ

    And if swords were to collide in his hands

    Fasting would become incumbent upon their weapons

  11. ترى البيدا خاضعة لديهِ

    كذا الأمصار في آمن تنامُ

    You’d see the country bowing before him

    As do cities sleeping in peace

  12. ويحسد بعضها بعضاً وكلٌّ

    بطلعتهِ يهيم ولا يُلامُ

    Some may envy others, yet all

    Are infatuated with him beyond blame

  13. كذا الدنيا تميل براحتيهِ

    يقلبها ولكن لا تضامُ

    Such is the world inclined to his comfort

    He puts it right without transgression

  14. لهُ جيش فمن يلقاه يلقى

    جبالاً لا يلينها اصطدام

    He has an army, whoever faces it faces

    Mountains immutable by collision

  15. وآيات الفتوح بجانبيهِ

    قعودٌ والسعود لهُ قيامُ

    And signs of conquest beside him

    Subservience, while ascendance is his vocation

  16. أتى والمجد يرفل في قباه

    ويصحبهُ وقارٌ واحترامُ

    He came while glory draped his mantle

    Accompanied by dignity and respect

  17. وشرف ثغر بيروت صباحاً

    فقابلهُ سرورٌ وابتسامُ

    And honored Beirut’s land one morn

    Met with joy and smiling faces

  18. وطأطأ رأسهُ لبنان طوعا

    فحل بكهف ساحتهِ السلامُ

    Lebanon bowed its head willfully

    Peace descended upon its valley

  19. أشار إلى السلام ولو أطاعت

    جناحاهُ لطار ولا يضامُ

    He gestured peace, had his wings obeyed

    He would have flown without limit

  20. وسلم أرزه واهتز تيهاً

    على هرمٍ ففارقهُ السقامُ

    He greeted its cedars, which swayed feverishly

    Freed from malady on a summit

  21. يحق لمصر أن تعلو إفتخاراً

    وتركز فوق ما سار الغمامُ

    Egypt deserves to proudly preen

    And hover beyond the clouds’ procession

  22. وتسحبُ ذيلها تيهاً وفخراً

    على كل البلاد ولا يضامُ

    Dragging its train loftily, pridefully

    Above all other nations without objection

  23. ولكن لطفهُ عم البرايا

    فزار ديارنا وكفى اللمامُ

    But his kindness blanketed the land

    So he visited us, ending our sorrows

  24. نعم قد خصصوا بالحيل مصراً

    وهاك النيل تحويهِ الشأم

    Indeed, they specified wiles for Egypt

    Behold, the Nile contains only a handful

  25. فذلك ماؤُه يجري فيسقي

    أراضيها فيغتنمُ الحطامُ

    While its water flows to irrigate

    Its fields, the destitute reap but scraps

  26. وهذا كفهُ الفياض بحرٌ

    أقلُ هباتهِ الدرر العظامُ

    As for his overflowing sea of a palm

    Jewels and gems are the least of its gifts

  27. بدت مصر لتحسدنا ولكن

    نبدى الحق وأمتنعُ الخصامُ

    Egypt seemed to envy us, but

    We state the truth, dispute is declined

  28. كذا الأهرام شاخصةٌ بعينٍ

    ترى شزرا إلينا لا تنامُ

    Like pyramids standing tall, watching

    Shzra’s eye never sleep turned to us

  29. إلا يا من لكم بعُلاهُ دهرٌ

    أليس لنا بهِ في الدهر عامُ

    But O you whose heights many ages grasp

    Have we not just one glorious year in time?

  30. فقد نلنا السعادة من سعيدٍ

    وشرف أرضنا ذاك الهمامُ

    For we obtained happiness from Saeed

    And the honor of our land - that protector

  31. فلا زلنا نرى هذي السجايا

    دواماً كلما سجع الحمامُ

    We still behold these remarkable traits

    Lasting forever, like turtledoves’ song

  32. ولا زالت قوافي الشعر فيهِ

    تصاغ وحسبنا هذا الختامُ

    And rhyming verses still created in his glory

    Composed - and this is enough conclusion
