1. سفرت لنا فالصبح لاح وشعشعا

    بسمت قسمنا للوميض تتبعاً

    The morning dawned bright for us, radiant,

    Our destiny smiled, we followed the glimmer eagerly,

  2. أهلاً بها خوداً تريك قلادة

    في جيدها فترى بدوراً طُلَّعا

    Welcome to her, gently I place a necklace around her neck,

    So you may see the pearls glistening on her chest,

  3. لم أنس إذ لعب الدلال بعطفها

    وتدللت لما كشفت البرقعا

    I have not forgotten when her wrap fluttered coquettishly,

    And she acted spoiled when she lifted her veil,

  4. فتلوت آيات مزخرفة على

    ثغر حلا وكففت عنها المطمعا

    She recited verses decorated beautifully from

    Her sweet mouth and stopped me from desiring more,

  5. فأطعت هاتيك السطور لأنها

    سحر حلال للإطاعة قد دعا

    I obeyed those lines because they are

    Lawful magic calling me to obey,

  6. لم اتل عمري مثل آية حسنها

    إلاَّ سطور الخلّ من عهدي رعا

    I have not recited in my life a verse like the beauty of her verse,

    Except the words of my beloved I used to herd,

  7. وردت إلينا من لدنهُ رسالة

    سلم الذي فيها البلاغة أودعا

    She sent us a message from her side,

    In which she deposited the highest eloquence,

  8. فتلوتها ووقفت إجلالاً لها

    إذ خلت جبرائيلها نحوي سعا

    I recited it and stood in reverence,

    For she had hurried her Gabriel towards me,

  9. ذاك الهمام الندب مفضال الورى

    شمس العلوم محا النجوم السطَّعا

    That respected leader called out, preferring people

    The sun of knowledge blotted out the brightest stars,

  10. أن هزَّ أقلاماً تراه موفقاًَ

    بين الفصاحة والبلاغة أجمعا

    He shook pens you see him succeed

    Between eloquence and rhetoric all together,

  11. ملك القلوب بقربهِ وبعادهِ

    أفديه من خل ولو طال البعا

    The king of hearts in his nearness and his distance,

    I sacrifice myself for him from envy even if it is prolonged,

  12. كم ترصد الأدباء أبياتاً لهُ

    لما علا أوج العلوم ترفعا

    How the literati lie in wait for verses about him,

    When he rose to the highest peak of knowledge loftily,

  13. فيفيدهم قرباً وبعداً هكذا

    تضحي الشموس ولو تنأت موقعا

    Thus benefiting them closely and from afar,

    The suns set examples even if they are distant,

  14. يا أيها الشهم الذي قد جدت لي

    بالمكرمات وكنت فيها المبدعا

    O you noble one who has been generous to me

    With favors and initiated them,

  15. لا زلت تمنحنا الجميل تكرماً

    إذ أننا نوفكيهُ خير الدعا

    You still grant us beauty and generosity,

    Since we repay him with the best prayers.
