يا من يشوقُ إلى التحاجي ان من
يَنهَل لرِيِّ صَداهُ لستُ أُعِلُّهُ
O you who yearn for debate, I am not one
Who drinks in the echo of his voice.
حاشاكَ من صَلَدِ القريحةِ يا فتى
نومٌ تُوُفِّي قل لنا ما مِثلُهُ
Far be it from you, O youth, to have a barren mind -
Sleep gives repose. Say to us, who is like it?
