O Joseph, O branch shed
Whose tender green the hands of separation have stripped bare
It has departed, leaving behind an unending sorrow
And soaring lament and copious tears
O you who don the white garb as a shroud
And adorn the hearts with black seals
You have a grave which the chronicler has inscribed above:
"In Egypt, the memory of Joseph remains eternal"
