1. بين ضربِ الطُلَى وطعنِ الصدورِ

    تَنزِلُ المَكرُماتُ حولَ غديرِ

    Between the strikes of swords and stabs of chests

    The generous descend around the pond

  2. وعلى صَهْوةِ السوابقِ تُبنى

    من عَجَاجٍ للمجد شُمُّ القصورِ

    And upon the threshold of the foremost

    From the debris of glory the scent of palaces is built

  3. إنَّما الفضلُ بالكَرامةِ والإق

    دامِ والحَزْم في اعتراكِ الأُمورِ

    For merit is through generosity and staying

    Steadfast, and wisdom in the turmoil of affairs

  4. مثلما سادَ في الوَرَى حَمَدُ المح

    مودُ حَمْدَ المؤَمَّلِ المشكورِ

    Just as Hammad prevailed in the lands with praise

    Like the praise of the hoped for and grateful

  5. طارفٌ عن تليدِ جَدٍّ قديمٍ

    وَرِثَ المكرُماتِ إرثَ الجديرِ

    A gentle man from an ancient honored lineage

    Inherited the traits of the worthy

  6. لَقَّبوهُ الصغيرَ وهْوَ عليٌّ

    إذ رأَوهُ دُونَ الإمام الكبيرِ

    They titled him the Little, and he is Ali

    When they saw him below the elder Imam

  7. فئةٌ تَصلُحُ العُلى والعطايا

    والسرايا لهم ونحرُ الجَزورِ

    A party who perfects the heights and grants

    And the cavalry for them and the slaughter of beasts

  8. لِسَريرِ العُلَى رِجالٌ وإلا

    ضاقَ بالجالِسِينَ مَتْنُ السريرِ

    For the throne of heights are men, else

    The seated would narrow the throne’s breadth

  9. أنتَ منهم وفَوْقَهم أيُّها الصا

    في كمالاً لِصَفْوةِ التكريرِ

    You are among them and above them, O gentle

    One, in the utmost perfection of the elite

  10. حَسَبٌ فوقَ ذلك المجدِ قد زا

    دَ كأبياتِ الشِعرِ بالتشطيرِ

    It suffices alongside that glory which has in

    creased like the verses of poetry in arrangement

  11. ضاقَ عنك الثَّناءُ شرحاً فما تُو

    صَفُ إلا بمثلِ رمزِ المُشيرِ

    Eulogy falls short describing you, so what can

    Be portrayed except by the symbol of the pointer

  12. فوقَ أهلِ القرِيضِ علماً فمن أرْ

    ضاكَ منهم فذاكَ فوقَ جريرِ

    Above the people of poetry in knowledge, so whoever

    Pleases you among them, he is above Jarir

  13. طالما تَنِظِمُ القوافيي من الشِع

    رِ طباقاً بمالكَ المنثورِ

    For long my rhymes in poetry form antiphony

    With the possessor of prose

  14. شاعرٌ يَخلُقُ المعاني ويَرضَى

    من فصيح الألفاظِ بالمشهورِ

    A poet who creates meanings and is pleased

    With the eloquent phrases of the renowned

  15. لا تَلُمْني إذا اقتصرتُ فقد كلْ

    لَفتُ نفسي إليك عزمَ الجسورِ

    Do not blame me if I was brief, for I have

    Exerted myself to you with resolute determination

  16. مَوقِفٌ هائلٌ وسيفٌ كليلٌ

    وكِلا الجانبينِ داعي القُصورِ

    A momentous standstill and a blazing sword

    And both sides calling for palaces
