عَفا مَنقَلٌ من اِهلِهِ فَنَقيبُ
فَسَرحُ اللِوى من ساهِر فمريبُ
Manqal lies effaced, bereft of its people—and Naqīb as well;
then Sarḥ al-Liwā, from Sāhir on to Murīb.
فَذو المَرخِ اِقوى فِالبِراقُ كَأَنَّها
بِحَورَةَ لَم يَحلُل بِهِنَّ عَريب
Dhū al-Markh lies desolate, and al-Birāq—as though
at Ḥawrah no living soul had ever dwelt among them.
