وَلَيسَ يُزري السواد يَوماً بِذي اللُ
بِ وَلا بِالفَتى اللَبيب الاِديب
Blackness never disgraces a man of under—
—standing, nor an intelligent, cultivated youth.
اِن يَكُن لِلسَّوادِ فيّ نَصيب
فَبياض الاِخلاقِ مِنهُ نَصيبي
If blackness has a share in Nasib,
then purity of character is the share I take from it.
