1. وصاحب من بني النجار عمته

    كأنما هي باراشوت طيار

    My companion from the carpenters is my aunt

    As if she is a flying parachute

  2. يرى مواعظه وقفاً على أذني

    وأن رأس التقى زجري وإنذاري

    He sees his sermons standing on my ears

    And if the pious one scolds me and warns me

  3. كأن عمان لم تعرف أخا طرب

    غيري يحج إلى حانوت خمار

    As if Oman did not know a brother who loves music

    Except me who travels to the tavern

  4. يا شيخ حسبك أدنى الإثم منزلة

    من رحمة اللّه ما تدعوه أوزاري

    O Sheikh, stop! The least sin

    Is enough from God's mercy, do not add to my burdens

  5. الناس قالوا وهبهم يا أخي غرقوا

    فيما يخوضون من شتم وإهجار

    People said, forgive them my brother, they drowned

    In what they wade through of insults and defiance

  6. فما لأهوائهم شأن يزيد على

    شأن الأثافي بين القدر والنار

    For their desires have no business more than

    The business of embers between the pot and the fire

  7. تثاب بالحرق من حمل يجشمها

    سخامه سحنة سوداء كالقار

    The one who carries hot coals deserves to be burnt

    By his foolishness, a black stupidity like tar
