ما نَظَرَتْ عَيْنَايَ كالأَهْجَرِ
كَثْرَةَ ماءٍ في بَهاءِ مَنْظَرِ
Never have my eyes beheld the like of al-Ahjar,
with its wealth of water and the splendor of its vistas:
مُلَوَّناً أَبيضَ في أَسْوَدٍ
في أحْمَرٍ في أَخْضَرٍ أصْفَرِ
variegated—white against black,
red, green, and yellow.
تسْعُونَ نهراً بعدَها تِسْعَةٌ
تجري به في خَبَرِ الْمُخْبرِ
Ninety rivers, then nine more,
flow through it, as the teller’s account relates.
