ألاَ لَيْتَ شِعْري هَلْ أَرَى وَجْهَ صِبْيَتي
صَحِيحاً مُعَافىً ناعِمَ البالِ والحَالِ
I wonder will I see my daughter's face
In health and wellbeing, tranquil and serene,
فَقَدْ كَدَّرتْني ثَوْرَةُ مِنْ حَرَارَةٍ
عَلَى غُرْبَةٍ ما بين حَلٍّ وتَرْحالِ
For her revolt in fevers does dishearten me
In foreign lands moving from one place to the next?
وذَاكَ عَلى اللهِ المهَيْمِنِ هَيِّنٌ
فكم قَدْ كفانِي مِنْ خُطوبٍ وَأَهْوالِ
Yet over all is God, the Ever Watchful One—
How many dire events has He not seen me through!
