يَقُولُونَ لي قَدْ حُزْتَ فَوْقَ الذي بِهِ

يَكونُ قِوامُ الاِجْتهادِ المحَقّقِ

They say to me, "You have surpassed the one by whom

The realization of diligent effort is established

وما رَسْتَ فَنّاً بَعْدَ فَنٍّ ولَمْ تَزَلْ

إذا قَصَّرَ الأقْوامُ فَوْقَ المحَلِّقِ

And you have not yet alighted art after art and still

When the people fall short above the soarer

وأَوْغَلْتَ في مِضْمارِ كُلِّ خَفِيّةٍ

وأَبْقَيْتَ مَنْ في السَّبْقِ غَيْرَ مُسَبِّقِ

And you have plunged into the arena of every mystery

And you have kept those in the lead other than the outstripper

ولكِنَّها قَدْ أَخَّرَتْكَ فَضائِلٌ

تَجَمّعْنَ لم يَعْرِفْنَ غَيْرَ الْتَفَرُّقِ

But virtues have indeed delayed you

That gathered, none knows other than dispersion
