1. وغَايَةُ ما حَصَّلْتُهُ منْ مَبَاحِثي

    ومِنْ نَظَري مِنْ بَعْدِ طُولِ التَّدَبُّرِ

    And the extent of what I have gained from my debates

    And from my contemplation after lengthy deliberation

  2. هُوَ الْوَقْف ما بَيْن الطّريقَيْن حيرَةً

    فما عِلْمُ مَنْ لَمْ يَلْقَ غَيْرَ التّحَيُّرِ

    Is but to stop perplexed between the two paths

    So what knowledge has one who found naught but confusion?

  3. عَلَى أَنّني قَدْ خُضْتُ مِنْهُ غِمارَهُ

    وما قَنَعَتْ نَفْسي بدُونِ التَّبَحُّرِ

    Yet verily I have plunged into its deep darkness

    And my soul did not content itself save with diving in
