لا تُنْكِري انْحِرَافِي عَنْ بَني زَمَني

فالعُذْرُ في ذاكَ بادِي الوَجْهِ واضِحُهُ

Do not deny my deviation from the people of my time

The excuse for that is evident and clear

ما فِي الْمَنَازِلِ ذُو لُبٍّ أنا صِحُهُ

ولا الرّكابِ أَخُو وَجْدٍ أطارِحُهُ

There is no one in the abodes who is sane like me

Nor a brother of passion among the mounts who can throw me
