طَمَّعْتُمُ يا وَيْحَكُمْ مَعْشَراً
قَدْ عَفَّ عَنْهُمْ كُلُّ طَمّاعِ
You enticed—woe to you—a people
whom every greedy man had left untouched.
ظَلَمْتُمُ قَوْماً تَحامَاهُمُ
كُلُّ فَتىً بالظُّلْمِ صَدّاعِ
You wronged a people shunned
by every young man who dealt crushing oppression.
رُعْتُمْ رَعايا ما لَهُمْ ناصِرٌ
مَا رَاعَهُمْ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ رَاعِي
You terrified subjects who have no defender;
no shepherd before you had terrified them.
واللهُ بالمِرْصادِ يَجْزِيكُمُ
بالظُّلْمِ كَيْلَ الصّاعِ بالصّاعِ
And God lies in wait to repay you
for oppression, measure for measure.
