وإِنَّ حَياةً والْمَماتُ خِتامُها
لأَحْقَرُ عِنْدَ الْعَقْلِ مِنْ أَنْ تُؤَثَّرا
And indeed, a life whose end is death
Is too paltry in reason’s eyes to be preferred.
وإنَّ نَعيماً أيْقَنَ المرْءُ أَنُّهُ
يَزولُ نَعيمٌ صَفْوُهُ قَدْ تَكَدَّرا
And indeed, bliss that a person knows for certain
Will vanish is bliss whose purity has already been clouded.
