1. الْعِلْمُ ما أَوْصَلَ أَرْبابَهُ

    إلى انكِشافِ الْحَقِّ رَأْياً لِعَيْن

    Knowledge is what leads its adepts

    to truth unveiled—a vision to the eye.

  2. وما عَدَا هَذَا فَمَحْصُولُهُ

    ظَنٌّ وَكُلُّ الْعِلْم للمَرْءِ زَيْن

    Anything short of this yields only

    conjecture; and all knowledge adorns a person.

  3. فَهَبْ لِيَ الْعِلْمَيْنِ يا وَاهِبَ ال

    جَزْلِ ويا كَشّاف غينٍ وَرَيْن

    So grant me both knowledges, O Giver of

    lavish bounty, O Dispeller of clouding and rust.
