مَنْ غَدا مُسْتَحْكِمَ الطَّمعِ

عاشَ طُولَ الدَّهْرِ في جَزَعِ

He who curbs excessive desires

Lives long free of distress and grief

أيُّها الْمُضْنَى بنَيْلِ مُنىً

حَكِّمِ الأَقْدَارَ واتّبِعِ

O you who seek glory and fortune

Accept what is decreed and follow it

كُلُّ أطُماعِ الْفَتَى شَرَهٌ

مالَها نَفْعٌ سِوى الْهَلَعِ

All the ambitions of youth are evil

Of no benefit save confusion
