The palace doll brought back memories of a beloved
She eclipsed and outshone the mistress of the feast
The son of Burd recoiled when he saw her
How perfect her splendor and radiance!
He fell like a drunk, laid out prostrate
Rolling in the herbs and flowers
She towered over Ali at the feast
No jewels could match her brilliance
When adorned with fine verse, it is hoped
That Ibn Yaḥyá will bring honor to poetry
Her charms outlast any reckoning
My numbers and verses fail to grasp them
