فُؤادُكَ يا بْنَ وُدِّي مِنْ حَدِيدِ

وَصَدُّكَ قَدْ تَجاوَزَ كُلَّ صَدِّ

Your heart, O son of my affection, is made of iron

And your aloofness has surpassed all barriers

جَهامٌ سُحُبُ وَصْلِكَ لَيْسَ يُرْجَى

لَهَا مَطَرٌ ولاَ قَهْقَاهُ رَعْدِ

The clouds of your connection have no hoped for rain

Neither downpour nor rumble of thunder

سِنُونٌ قَدْ تَقَضَّتْ في مَطالٍ

بِلا حِفْظٍ لِعَهْدٍ أَوْ لِوَعْدِ

Years have passed in hopes never kept

Without honoring a pact or promise

وِصَالٌ دُونَ عَامِ ثُمَّ بَيْنٌ

طَويلٌ مالَهُ حَصْرٌ بِعَدِّ

A connection less than a year, then estrangement

Endless, with no limit to its distance

فيا قَلْباً تَقَلَّبَ في فُنُونٍ

مِنَ التَّسْويفِ عَدِّ عَنِ التَّعَدِّي

So heart that tossed in inconstancy

Refrain from transgressing, cease procrastination

وَدَعْ عَنْكَ العَقِيقَ وساكِنِيهِ

وإنْ كانَ العَقِيق مَثارَ وَجْدِي

Leave the agate and its people be

Though agate is the fruit of my essence

وخُذْ بَدَلاً بِهِ سُكَّانَ نَجْدٍ

وإنْ لَمْ يَشْفِ مابِكَ أَهْلُ نَجْدِ

Take instead the people of Najd

Even if Najd's people don't cure your sickness
