أَطْلَقْتَ دَمْعِي بَعْدَ تَقْيِيدِ الْهَوَى

بحُلُولِ أَجْزا كُلّهُ بِمَحلِّهِ

You unleashed my tears after restraining desire,

With the advent of penalties, each in its proper place.

وخَصَصْتَني بعُمُومِ أسْبابٍ بِها

بَدْءُ الْغَرامِ غَدَا مُشابِه أَوْلِه

You singled me out with general causes through which

The beginnings of passion became like their first stages.

أَلْزَمْتني ضِدَّ الْهَوى عَرَّفْتني

جاوَزْتَ آلاتِ الْهَوى ببَدِيله

You made me oppose desire and got acquainted with me,

You replaced the instruments of passion with its substitute.

وحَذَفْتَني والْقَلْبُ ظَرفُ مَوَدَّةٍ

يا مَنْ تُسَبِّبُ للعَذُولِ وفِيله

And you dismissed me while the heart is a receptacle of affection.

O you who provide reasons for withdrawal and its consequences!
