اَلْجَوابُ الْحَقُّ في هَذَا بِلاَ
رِيبَةٍ عِنْدي وباحِثْ وَسَلِ
The true answer in this for me, without doubt,
Is with the researcher, ask and trace.
إنّ تَخْريجَ مَقالٍ حادِثٍ
مِنْ مَقالٍ لإمامٍ أَوّلِ
If the statement of a modern scholar
Derives from the words of an early imam,
إنْ يَكُنْ مُنْدَرِجاً في لَفْظِهِ
بِعُمومٍ أو قِياسٍ مُنْجَلي
Through generality or analogous deduction -
It is part of what that early voice has said.
فَهْوَ مِنْ جُمْلَةِ ما قد قَالَهُ
صَاحِبُ الْقَوْلِ الْقَديم الأَوَّلِ
But if it is by fanciful analogy,
Guessing and comparing aimlessly,
وَإذا كانَ مِنَ الْحَمْلِ على
شَبَهِ الشّيءِ وَنَحْوِ الْمَثَلِ
It has no basis, a fiction for the fanciful.
Follow this, for it enriches the world,
فَهْوَ دَعْوى ما لَها مُسْتَنَدٌ
وَخَيالٌ عَنَّ للمُتَخَيِّلِ
Beyond the ideas of false claimants.
What the Qur’an contains, or the words
واتَّبِعْ هَذا فَقَدْ أَغْنَى الْوَرَى
عَنْ جَمِيعِ الرَّأْيِ مِنْ مُنْتَحَلِ
Of the best prophet and messengers,
Follow if you are wise, the words
ما حَوَى الْقُرآنُ أَوْ ما كانَ مِنْ
قَوْلِ خَيْرِ الأَنْبِيا والرُّسُلِ
Of the early imam, the first guide.
He is the model, the perfect example
فَاتْبَعُوا إنْ كُنْتُمُ مِمَّنْ لَهُ
فِطْنَةٌ قَوْلَ الإمامِ الأَوّلِ
Of truth in clear and unclear matters.
May our Lord reward him for us,
فَهُوَ الْقُدْوةُ والأُسْوَةُ لل
حَقِّ في الواضِحِ والْمُسْتَشْكِلِ
And for all of mankind, the highest place.
He cured and guided us with what came
فَجَزاهُ رَبُّنا عَنّا وَعَنْ
كُلِّ هَذَا الْخَلْقِ أَعْلَى مَنْزِلِ
To us clearly from him.
Why should we toil with the words of one
قَدْ شفَانَا وَهَدَانَا بالذِي
جاءَنا مِنْهُ مِنَ الأَمْرِ الْجَلِي
Like us in knowledge and practice?
He is charged as others are charged,
ما لَنَا والْكَدْحِ في قَوْلِ امْرِىءٍ
مِثْلِنا في عِلْمِهِ والْعَمَلِ
With clear and unclear matters.
The law applies to him as it does
هُوَ مَطْلُوبٌ بِما يُطْلَبُ مِنْ
غيْرِهِ مِنْ واضِحٍ أَو مُعْضِلِ
To all those who imitate him.
You misguided by corrupt opinion,
صَارَ بالتَّكْلِيفِ بالشَّرْعِ مَعَ
كُلِّ مَنْ قلّدَهُ في مَثَلِ
Astray from the book sent down!
Becoming contrary to what was brought
أَيُّها الْمَغْرورُ بالرَّأْيِ الّذِي
ضَلّ عَنْ نَهْجِ الْكِتابِ الْمُنْزَلِ
By the best of messengers, in valid speech.
You are bound in the darkness of ignorance,
وَغَدا ضِدّاً لما جاءَ بِهِ
مِنْ صَحيحِ الْقَوْلِ خَيْرُ الرُّسُلِ
Confused in perplexing matters.
Dispel confusion and ignorance with what is
أَنْتَ في ظُلْمَةِ جَهْلٍ مُوثَقٌ
أَنْتَ في حِيرَةِ أَمْرٍ مُعْضِلِ
Sound from the guidance of the sent prophet.
The path of good is open to those who seek
فادْفَعِ الْحِيرَةَ والْجَهْلَ بِما
صَحَّ عَنْ هَدْي النّبيِّ الْمُرْسَلِ
To tread the best paths.
وسَبِيلُ الْخَيْرِ مَفْتُوحٌ لِمَنْ
رَامَ يَسْلُكَ خَيْرَ السُّبُلِ
