They said, “So-and-so—honor his due,
for he is of the Chosen One’s family.”
Then you said, “Kinship has a right
that is not obscure to one like me.
But so-and-so—may his palm be dust-covered—
has shown disdain for the radiant Sunnah,
and has adopted a doctrine of Rafḍ,
through which he stood at a brink in his faith.
Thus a part of him [perhaps: hatred of him] is a duty upon everyone
who is fair-minded on the path of guidance.
Kinship does not benefit a son who rejected
his father’s faith, in the eyes of the loyal.
And how many of the nearest kin have been brought nearer
to baseness by some shortcoming.
For disgrace engulfed his uncle when
he opposed the one whose faith had become pure.”
