إذَا شَغِفَتْ نَفْسُ الْفَتَى بالمعارِفِ

إذَا شَغِفَتْ نَفْسُ الْفَتَى بالمعارِفِ

تَساوَى لَدَيْهِ عَيْشُ خِصْبٍ وشاظِفِ

تَساوَى لَدَيْهِ عَيْشُ خِصْبٍ وشاظِفِ

When a young man's soul is enamored of knowledge,

When a young man's soul is inflamed with knowledge

Life in plenty and in hardship is alike to him.

He finds the same pleasure in poverty or in wealth

وَهاجَرَ مِنْ لَذّاتِهِ كُلَّ ناعِمٍ

وَهاجَرَ مِنْ لَذّاتِهِ كُلَّ ناعِمٍ

وَفارَقَ منْ أَوْطانِهِ كُلَّ وارِفِ

وَفارَقَ منْ أَوْطانِهِ كُلَّ وارِفِ

And he forsakes every comfort among his pleasures,

He abandons all luxuries

And leaves every lushly shaded place in his homelands.

And leaves behind his native land

وَعَانَقَ أَبْكارَ المعانِي وَلَمْ يَمِلْ

وَعَانَقَ أَبْكارَ المعانِي وَلَمْ يَمِلْ

إلى وَصْلِ أَبْكارِ الْغَواني الشَّواعِفِ

إلى وَصْلِ أَبْكارِ الْغَواني الشَّواعِفِ

And he embraces virgin meanings, and does not incline

He embraces new concepts tirelessly

Toward union with heart-captivating virgin beauties.

And strives to attain unprecedented heights
