My opinion of my Lord is good;
My hopes in my Lord are beautiful
my opinion of myself is bad.
My hopes in myself are ugly
Through this, my soul is soothed;
With this my soul finds peace
and through that, the spacious grows narrow.
With that my spaciousness grows narrow
And my heart, through this
And my heart in this
and that, is sick and sound.
And that is a healthy sickness
I expect my Lord's mercy;
I expect my Lord's mercy
when it comes, I find rest.
When it comes I will find rest
Has it not encompassed everything?
Does it not encompass everything?
And this is plainly all-inclusive.
And that is an outright universality
So if I myself am a thing,
So if I am something
then that is a profitable matter.
Then that is a graceful affair
You have ordained it, O my God—
You wrote it, oh my God
and You are a generous Lord—
And You are a gracious Lord
for every servant; and I
For every servant, and I
am a lowly, insistent servant.
Am a worthless, craving servant
