مرضُ العيونِ الحورِ طِبُهْ

وسلاامُ ذب الأجفانِ حربهْ

The cure for the eyes is the houris' affliction,

And the safety of the eyelids is their war.

وبهِ رشا أحوى أغنُّ

كما يشاءُ يراهُ ربُهْ

With it I become distracted from my love,

As my Lord wishes and sees fit.

لم يحكهِ الغيدُ الحيا

نَ وهل تحاكي البدرَ شبهُهْ

Time has not spun it,

Nor can the full moon match its beauty.

يجزي محبةَ من يهي

مُ بهِ الصدودَ وذاكَ دأبهْ

He rewards the love of one who turns away

From obstacles - such is his way.

يا قلبُ لم يعذركَ في

هذا الضنى والذنبُ ذنبهْ

O heart whom no excuse aids

In this melancholy, the sin being its own sin,

من للجفونِ بأن تنا

مَ وما يطيعُ الجفنُ هدبهْ

Who can command the eyelids to sleep

When the eyelids refuse to be restrained?

أترى جنيتَ على حبي

بكَ أم كذا قد صارَ قلبهْ

Do you think you have triumphed over my love for you

Or has my heart become thus?

رشأٌ تلاعبَ بالنهى

لا يستفيقُ الدهرَ لعبهْ

A pleasure that plays with prohibition -

Its game does not wake the era.

ما زالَ يهوى الناسَ حت

ى ما يُعَدُ اليومَ صحبُهْ

It continues to love people until

The day records its company.

والحبُّ أحسنَ ما يكو

نُ إذا انفردتَ بمن تحبُهْ

And love is best when

You are alone with the one you love.

فاصبر على خطبِ الزما

نِ فهينهُ يمضي وصعبُهْ

So be patient with the events of time,

Its difficulty will pass and the rough become smooth.
