نصبت لي في الكرى حباله

اصطاد صيداً من الصور

He set traps for me in the vastness

And caught visions as his prey

رايت جسمي انتهى لحاله

تضيء كالشمس والقمر

I saw my body had met its fate

Shining like the sun and moon

فطرت في النور أجتليه

محاسناً تملأ السما

I was created in the light to unveil it

With beauty that fills the sky

ولا ضوء بلا شبيه

إلا حبيبي تبسما

There is no light without a likeness

Except for my beloved's smile

فقلت هل بي يا قلب فيه

لعلني أطفئ الظما

I asked: Is there in me, o heart that

Might extinguish the darkness?

ناجيت قلبي بذي المقاله

فدمدم الأفق بالشرر

I whispered to my heart with wise words

So the horizon roared with sparks

صرخت ما للفضاء ما له

فقال في قلبك الخطر

I cried out: What is with the sky?

It said: The danger is in your heart

يا أُفق هل خفت من شراره

تحت الضلوع اسمها الفؤاد

O horizon, did you fear its embers

Beneath the ribs, called the heart?

أم سعر الهجر فيك ناره

توقد من يابس الوداد

Or did the heat of estrangement ignite

The dryness of affection in you?

أم يوم حب قضى نهاره

وحل من بعد السواد

Or the day love had spent its time

And darkness came after it?

فقال وجه نرى خياله

في قلبك الحامل الضرر

It said: We see the face of one

Whose imagination harms your heart

ارجع فلو أن ذي الغزاله

تغازل النجم لانفجر

Go back, for if the owner of the gazelle

Flirted with the star, it would explode
