O night, you have stirred up longings, direct them

Ask the full moon about them, for the full moon knows them

It saw the essence of this obscure feeling

So it came to reveal it to people through a simile

We see it in the form of the moon's beauty

And we see the moon appearing as a form within it

It comes with a sky full of its excellences

For my heart, though it does not satisfy it

And the comfort of eternity comes in its rays

Seeking on earth those who on earth seek it

And how many messages the late night sends through it

To the lovers, so it comes to them and conveys them

It says to the abandoned lover, smiling:

Take me as an apparition came from her you name

And to him whom the hand of separation distanced in its bedouins:

I am from your eyes, I come nearest to it

And to him whom the despair of passion wasted away:

Look at me and do not neglect wishing for it

As for me, the full moon came to me in rapture

And said: I have brought a meaning from its meanings

So I said: From her cheek, or from her glances?

Or from her coquetry, or from her defiance?

Or from her mantles, or from her emotions?

Or from her pillows, or from her intimates?

Or from her aversion, or from her fracture?

Or from her turning, or from her bending?

Be like her for me, attraction in my blood and love

Or be a flirt, and be magic, and be ravishment

So it said, saddened: I could not manage more

Than to snatch a smile that shone from her mouth
