I say to her when she asks how I fare
My troubles are a grief that eats my heart
And I have what I have, don't you know it
You who taught me passion's keen delight
Your tenderness, sister to little birds
So airy light! And you, belle of peacocks
With wondrous feathers! You, my girl, tilt towards me
My flower, open! Breath of dawn in our garden, blow!
She would not give me from her lips a draught
I thought it was the houris by my side
O Lord, enough is what has passed, for life
Is but torment, and this the soul of Your servant, my Lord.
