Are the dawn's tears mine or the spring's

That trickle amid the eyelids of spring

Clapping like the pure one's majesty

The bosom friend laments the debauched

And they from the flowers in lips

As affliction tastes sweet after hunger

And the meadow’s breast drips on its side

Like the drippings of wet nurses on the infant

And the night exhaled painful breaths

Like the breaths of the beautiful to her lover

And the dawn gleamed, revealing a forehead

On which the sun glows, freshly risen

And the country girl rose early to fill her jars

Like startled herd in the fearful meadow

So nature blushed in her gardens

And her beautiful natural face turned fresh

Going and returning while the flowers nod

To her in her coming and in her going

And the river's mouth smiles from its moisture

Though its spout did not quench the thirst

And the breezes tell us of its fragrance

As the strings tell of the curvature in my ribs

Kohl-adorned yet no kohl - but ask

    The gazelles about that craft

And she frowned, setting up snares

While the soul’s bird is about to fall

I see her enveloped in beauty

    Like neon light in lanterns

She hides when the sun hides

But races her sister at sunrise

So my heart, disobey every love but hers

And my soul, obey none but her

For that beauty is not what is bought

By her tricks from the merchandised beauty

And what the cities contain is naught but innovation

Though they deemed innovation as brilliant

For over there, every female is beautiful

As if beauty was apportioned among all

That tints the cheeks - and which eye

Would love a cheek colored with antimony?

And how much has that beauty interceded, but

When did the lovesick ever need intercession?

And do hearts stand on waists

As if their tails were chopped off?

I have nothing to do with cities - they are

But tombs containing only the dead

    Was civilization in its children

    Aught but their vile deeds?

Did you see among the people a gentle one

Other than a destitute man or a waster?

This one spent the night satiated and watered

While that one died of thirst and hunger

And sweeter than those in my eyes

In the villages, the gazes of the herd

For the matter is decided by a girl

Better than a boy who is not enduring

And the bitterness of livelihood in bliss

Is only soothed by miserable life

If they mixed the water of life with sorrow

It would become like stagnant water, poisonous

If the firmaments were made of soil

Wealth would be nothing but contentment

I see the night nodding off

And its eye whitened by the shedding of tears

Watching whether it will see a liver

    Its flasks diverse in cracks

    And after that closely

The dawn troops frolicking in the meadows

So it released what possessed it and retreated

As the coward flees the crowds

And I was hiding in its flanks

So suns, conceal me or expose me!
