أيا ضيفاً أطالَ المك

ثَ حتى قَبُحَ الضيفُ

O guest who overstayed

Until hosting grew unpleasant

لقد خطوا لكَ السوآ

تِ حرفاً بعدَهُ حرفُ

They built rhymes for you

Letter by letter

وأقداهمُ الأقلا

مُ والأرضُ هي الصحفُ

And the gentlest of them

Was the ground as their page

وكم زلزلتَ دورهمُ

فخرَّ عليهم السقفُ

How you shook their homes

Till the roof collapsed

لئنْ يصفُ لنا يومٌ

فأيامكَ لا تصفو

If a day describes us

Your days cannot describe

وقد ماتَ ذوو الكافا

تِ والندمانُ والقصفُ

The capable had died

And the regretful and recluse

وباتَ الناسُ من أرضا

هُ يومَ ساءَهُ ألفُ

People now inhabit a land

Ruined when thousands came
