It flows, and when the mood desires it,

Like a virgin bride on her wedding day,

The drink brings joy and delight,

The rooster crows loudly and the chickens cluck,

As if they were monks in a monastery,

Lighting a lamp in each cup,

As if the sick man who drank it,

Threw himself on a bed to receive treatment,

As if when prostrated by it, we were

Knights of war felled in fierce combat,

From the palm of a young maiden,

    Full-hipped, tender-skinned,

My heart doubted her at first glance and recoiled,

Yet could not stop glancing back at her,

    Seeing her through his ribs,

As if seeing her through glass.
