Come to me, even if you do not embellish, just be gentle

For it is enough that at the moment of death we will meet

And if you want me to remain though love has destroyed

Its people, or else order me to join them

I was not satisfied with a spacious world

But when my day drew near, I was content with what remained

What can I do if you leave me no solution?

After your glances, how can I beware?

May God conceal what power your every glance has over me

Unless you fear Him, have mercy and be kind

Was it not enough that your cheeks were a seduction

For us that you adorn your cheeks with kohl?

You increased the seduction of your cheeks until you left me

To die from the mourning of the ring-necked doves

Your eyes sent a breeze into the ornaments

So how did the cloaks fold back from it to speak?

And cast upon it from your passion a touch

So it did not cease, yellowed, cautious of dispersal

And your breasts move it away and then gather it

As is the way of love in the fawning lover

I learned from it what evaded my watchfulness

And not every eloquent speech is elegant

Speech is only the share, the more I see

Remaining in it, suffering though not succeeding

If they envy me an Arab trait

Then, O Lord of a stallion, if I became senile

They are not aware, they did not know love

So say to whoever does not know love: love!

And she of slender shape, when I passed her

I said to her: I adjure you by God, so be gentle

I see the soul an arrow between your jaws, lodged

If this bow moves, it will slip away

And I turned it until when it said: "You have removed

From the eye," I said: "Now be silent or sigh softly."

The lion is not stronger in attacking, but I

When I see the gazelles frolicking, I leave

And I have a pen sharp as a fang that did not cease

But when the tear touched it, it softened

I am not one who hides his sorrow in his side

But something, if the full moon revealed it, destroys

Restrain yourself, do not finish me off, for perhaps

One day you will see the gleam of the crown on my temples

No trait delayed me among the people of the times

Rather, whenever I bolted forth in the race, I won

Whoever has a soul that sees the earth as an arena

Must one day ascend to the heavens

Wait, I will illuminate its horizons then put out

As your love's breaths put out my bloom

Do I not have words that if I strung them as pearls

Or scattered their beads, would shine?

It is enough for you a heart between my ribs, a poet

When its thoughts well up, they flow

You will find no other who says, when he weeps

For your eyes, what the heart encountered and met
