Oh love and the glory of its tenderness!

Why does not the lover bow to his darling?

The mind of Radiant was made brilliant and the moon would

Have left the ages in darkness but for her light.

The children of love are two, her life is that

Fruit hanging in passion on the bough of life.

Like flowers on branches, stars in the sky

    And pearls inside their shells.

Hearts are like their home; male and female

Each heart has its own passions and desires.

When hearts are joined you see them

Suffer like people from their sorrow.

The heart bears for women and only

A child of passion resembles some of its traits.

So charm varies – this one’s sisterly faith

And that one’s deception are her attributes.

Love is sweetest when the darling

Forbids you to pluck its fruits.

    Souls once denied drink deep

Forgetting water even at the Euphrates.

Light my passion Mariye, your love's

A light I've always walked toward.

I see life as an endless night,

Luck's stars lost on its roads.

Alas for this love! If her family knew of love

They'd make it hard to reach its goals.

    A thing perplexing; it itself

    Brought misery on itself.

I was not meant to come here; my words

    To him I'll someday meet – I wish I hadn't come!

But Fate's situations everywhere are manifold

And this situation's one of its states.

Does the sick man yearn for his doctor

Or does the sound of mourning please one fated to die?

My people, I have no tricks; today passion

Draws near and the birds are scattered.

Alas! I saw her and remain after her

The star's a defect in the face of the sun.

For one with passion to be among the dead is better

Than to see her in the arms of others.
