لا الترك ترضى بما أجرت حكومتها

في المسلمين وحاشاها ولا العرب

Turkey is not content with what its government has done

To Muslims, shame on it, nor are the Arabs

كنا نؤمل منها الخير فانقلبت

تلك الأماني ولما يسكن الغضب

We hoped for good from it, but it turned

Those hopes upside down, and wrath does not abate

هذا الزمان أرانا من حوادثه

شتى العجائب حتى ينقضي العجب

This age has shown us, of its events

All kinds of wonders, until wonder itself ceases

قالوا الخلافة عبء قد أضر بهم

لولا الخلافة ما نالوا الذي رغبوا

They said the Caliphate had become a burden on them

Were it not for the Caliphate, they would not have attained what they aspired to

ألقوا بها بين أيدينا مدحرجة

واستصغروا الفعلة الشنعاء وانقلبوا

They tossed it into our hands, discarded

And underestimated that heinous deed, and turned away

في آل عثمان بات المجد مندرسا

يبكي لأعظم ماساة وينتحب

In the House of Osman, glory lies erased

Mourning the greatest calamity, lamenting grievously

هلا رعوا فيهم المفضال فاتحها

يرعاك في حسب من عنده الحسب

Why did they not protect in the House of its opener

He who protects your lineage protects you

لآل عثمان في أعناقنا منن

حق اليهم نؤديه كما يجب

To the House of Osman we owe

A debt to be repaid, as duty demands

عار على الأمة السمحا إضاعة من

كنا لدولتهم بالأمس ننتسب

Shame on the noble community for losing one

To whose state we claimed loyalty yesterday

هذي مآثرهم في كل مملكة

لم يعرف الترك لولاهم ولا حسبوا

These are their achievements in every kingdom

The Turks would not have been known nor esteemed but for them

يا طلعة الذئب من بعد الهلال على

راياتهم علنا تعسا لما انتخبوا

O rising of the wolf after the new moon against

Their banners! Dire is what they have chosen!

الحاكمون بما في غير ملتهم

القائلون علوم الدين تجتنب

Rulers over what is not their faith

Who say the sciences of religion should be avoided

إن صح هذا فبشرهم بعاقبة

خسرى ولكن بودي أنه الكذب

If this be true, give them tidings

Of miserable loss, but I wish it were a lie

إني لآسف إذ بالأمس أمدحهم

واليوم في هجوهم أدعى وانتدب

I regret that yesterday I praised them

While today I claim and stipulate their censure

ما كنت مادحهم إلا لما صنعوا

ما كنت هاجيهم إلا لما ارتكبوا

I praised them only for what they had done

I blame them only for what they have committed

لولا المروق الذي ما زلت أنكره

ما حدث عن شكرهم لكن هو السبب

Were it not for the apostasy which I continue to denounce

This talk of gratitude would not have occurred, but it is the cause
