1. القول كالبرق والأعمال كالمطر

    فاجعل مقالك برقا صادق الخبر

    Words are like lightning and deeds like rain

    So make your words truthful lightning

  2. ما صوتت في طريق الرتل مزجية

    إلا وشقت فيافيها على الأثر

    No caravan song was voiced on the road

    Without it cutting through the air instantly

  3. واستخدم الفكر في نفع الأنام ولا

    تصد عن وطن رباك من صغر

    And use thought for the benefit of mankind

    Do not neglect the homeland your Lord raised you in from childhood

  4. واستفرغ الجهد في التأديب مبتدئا

    فيك النصيحة واسترسل الى الأخر

    Expend effort in discipline starting out

    For you is advice so flow to the last

  5. واذكر لشعبك تاريخ الجدود وما

    كانوا عليه وما في سالف العصر

    And remind your people of their ancestorsˈ history

    What they used to be and what is in the eras of the past

  6. عسى تقوم معوجا لسيرتهم

    بما تقصه تقويما من السير

    Hopefully you straighten their path

    With what you recount, making upright from behavior

  7. واستصحب العقل في وضع النصيحة عن

    قوس تصوب مرماها عن الوتر

    And take reason as company when giving advice

    From a bow taking aim off the bowstring

  8. واعرف مواضع أدواء تعالجها

    فرب ادوية أدت إلى الخطر

    And know the places of ailments to treat them

    For some medicines have led to danger

  9. وانظر لمزجة قبل العلاج فما

    كان الملائم فاستعمله أو فذر

    And see the mixture before treating

    What suits, use it or leave it

  10. واختر لبذرك أرضا فيه صالحة

    أولا فإنك ملقيه على الحجر

    And for your seed choose fertile soil first

    For you have cast it on stone

  11. واثبت على مبدأ أيدت صحته

    حتى توخيته سيرا مع العمر

    And stick to a principle you have verified correctness

    Until you steered by it, going with life

  12. واسبر طبائع من تنوي مودته

    فقلما اتفق القلبان في البشر

    And know the nature of those whose affection you intend

    Rarely do two hearts concur among mankind

  13. كل يرى نقصه في الغير متضحا

    حيث الكمال لذات اللّه فاعتبر

    Everyone sees their own flaws obviously

    Since perfection is for Godˈs essence so consider

  14. واعرف لربك حقا في الرجوع له

    حيث المآل إلى الجنات أو سقر

    And know your Lord has a right to return to Him

    Since the outcome is to Paradise or Saqar

  15. وكن إلى البر سباقا مع الفضلا

    فالناس قسمان ذو نفع وذو ضرر

    And race ahead of others in righteousness and grace

    For people are two types: harmful and beneficial

  16. واجنح إلى عمل حسنا مغبته

    من كن من الشر في الدنيا على حذر

    And incline toward doing good whose detriment

    Is protection from evil in the world so be on guard

  17. واغنم حياتك بالإظعان ليس لنا

    فيها سكون فان العمر في سفر

    And make use of your life by obeying

    We have no rest in it for life is a journey

  18. ذاك النمو ارتحال لا وقوف له

    يجري بحكم القضا في الخلق والقدر

    That growth is movement with no standing

    Flowing by divine decree among creation and fate

  19. إن الحياة كمثل المال ما طلبت

    لذاتها فاقضها دوما مع الوطر

    Life is like money, not sought

    For itself so spend it constantly with contentment

  20. ولا تكن عالة فيها على أحد

    ولو أباك فلا محيا لمفتقر

    And do not depend in it on anyone

    Even if your father so no life for one needing

  21. ولا تمن بمعروف فتبطله

    ولا تكن لجميل غير مدكر

    Do not spoil a favor by mentioning it

    And do not forget a good deed

  22. واعمل لدنياك ما يجديك آخرة

    ليس اللبيب على الدنيا بمقتصر

    And work for your world what will avail you in the next

    The sensible person does not limit himself to the life

  23. وانظر تقلبها في الناس مومسة

    يوما لعمرو وأحيانا إلى مطر

    And see its fickleness among people, one day

    For Amr and sometimes for Matar

  24. ترجو السعادة منها والسعادة كالس

    راب ينظره المغتر بالبصر

    Hoping for fortune from it though fortune is like

    A mirage the fool sees with sight

  25. كل يراها ولكن في سواه وما

    كانت لفرد وكم في الدهر من عبر

    All see it but in others, never

    To an individual though many morals in eras

  26. ما لا مرىء يوم ميلاد لو اتعظوا

    بالحادثات لقالوا يوم محتضر

    If they had learned from events when born

    They would have said a day of death

  27. هي الحياة شكايات فما حمدوا

    فيها زمانا وما انفكت عن الخطر

    It is complaints so they have not praised

    An era in it and it does not part from danger

  28. والعيش كله أكدار منوعة

    حتى اللذائذ لا تخلو من الكدر

    And living wholly diverse troubles

    Even pleasures not devoid of bitterness

  29. لو خيرونا لما اخترنا سوى عدم

    وإنما الأمر موكول إلى القدر

    If we were given a choice we would not choose but nonexistence

    Yet the matter is consigned to fate

  30. فلا يغرك دهر في استطالته

    فانظر لماضيه تحكم فيه بالقصر

    So do not let a long era deceive you

    Consider its past to judge it as short

  31. وفي اختلاف الليالي ما يشير إلى

    أن الزمان وما يحويه في سفر

    And in the nightsˈ differing is what indicates

    That time and what it contains is in a journey

  32. فاليعلم الكل أن لا بد من عدم

    للكون والحرص في الدنيا من الخور

    So let all know there must be nonexistence

    For the universe and greed in life is shamelessness

  33. فأسعد الناس لو انصفت أزهدهم

    فازهد تجدر راحة فيها من الكدر

    The happiest people if you examine are the most ascetic

    So be ascetic, you will find in it rest from distress

  34. جئنا ولم ندر من أين المجيء بنا

    أو كيف كنا ولم نوقف على أثر

    We came not knowing where we came from

    Or how we were and did not realize a trace

  35. ما بالنا اليوم في الجهد الجهيد على

    كنه التكون ما الملجي إلى النظر

    Why are we today exerting great effort on

    The essence of genesis? What drew us to thinking?

  36. لو لم تكن أذن فينا وباصرة

    ما كان فكر فيال السمع والبصر

    If there was no hearing in us and no sight

    There would be no thought, what hearing and sight!

  37. لو كنت أعلم ما عيش الجماد لما

    فضلت في العيش إلا عيشة الحجر

    If I knew inanimate livelihood I would not

    Have preferred in living but the livelihood of stone

  38. لكن لعله يرجو عيشتي وأنا

    أرجو حياته والاثنان في خطر

    But perhaps it desires my life as I

    Desire its life while both are in danger

  39. هذي الكواكب من عهد الأولى سلفوا

    تبدو وتخفى وترمي الشمس بالشرر

    These planets from the epoch of early times died

    Appearing and hiding, the sun shooting sparks

  40. يا هل ترى فوقها ما فوق كوكبنا

    أو هي محض خيالات من الصور

    O one who sees, do you see above it what is beyond our planet

    Or is it pure imaginings of forms?

  41. ما بيننا لانكشاف الأمر واسطة

    وما علمناه عنها محض مفتكر

    There is no means between us to uncover the matter

    And we have not known about it but supposition

  42. ما لي وفلسفة تفضي إلى تعب

    وما أنا بالطبيعي ولا الأثري

    I have no philosophy leading to fatigue

    And Iˈm no naturalist or theorist

  43. وإنما شاعر في المسلمين يرى

    ما قاله الله في القرآن والأثر

    But a poet among Muslims who sees

    What God has said in Qurˈan and tradition

  44. مسلم الأمر تفويضا لخالقه

    يرجو النجاة لأن الدهر ذو عبر

    A Muslim commissioning the matter to his Creator

    Hoping for salvation as time has lessons

  45. مصدقا بمعاد فيه مبعثه

    بشرى لمتبع الإسلام منتظر

    Confirming the Return in which is his resurrection

    Good news for the Muslim follower waiting

  46. إني لذلك في العيش الرغيد فلا

    أخشى الممات كأني لست في البشر

    For that I have blissful living so I do

    Not fear death as if I am not among mankind

  47. أهنى البرية عيشا مسلم سلمت

    فيها سريرته من زيغ مفتكر

    I enjoy wholesome life as Muslim who submitted

    Himself safeguarding his conscience from deviant thought

  48. آمنت بالله ربا مرسلا رسلا

    بالحق خاتمها المختار من مضر

    I believe in God as a Sender of messengers

    With truth, last of them the Chosen One from Mudar

  49. أراح فيها ضميري نور محكمه

    مما تلوناه من آي ومن سور

    My conscience rests in the light of His Decisive

    We did not exchange what of verses and suras

  50. طوبى لمعتقد قد قام بنصره

    في الناس من ينتصر الله ينتصر

    Good fortune to one whose belief took a stand for Him

    Among people, he whom God grants victory is granted victory
