فم الإحساس أصبح في افترار

فما للمدلجين وللدراري

The mouth of feeling has become inflamed

What is it to the veiled and the young girls

وفي الديجور أومضت الثنايا

فبات الفجر يوذن بالنهار

And in the darkness the slopes gleamed

So the dawn heralded the day

بوارق من خلال السحب تبدو

فيقبس من أشعتها المواري

Ships appear through the clouds

And the lighthouses capture their rays

أما طت عن محيا القطر سترا

فيا للّه ما تحت الستار

Has the rain curtained Qatar

Oh my! What is behind the veil

وما خلف الحجاب سوى ركاز

كما قص الكتاب عن الجدار

Nothing but jujube trunk

As the book related about the wall

يد الملوان قد نسجت خيوطا

عليه وأضمرته يد المواري

The painter’s hand wove threads

And the young girl's hand embroidered it

تعاقبت الليالي وهو فيها

مع الأفلاك بالأفكار سار

The nights succeeded each other and he

Moved with ideas and planets

وكأن الشمس غشتها الدياجي

وأطلعها فأضحت في احمرار

As if the fog covered the sun

And made it appear red

وحلق بازيا ينوي اصطيادا

فجاب الجو يبحث في البراري

The falcon intended to hunt

So it roamed the air searching the lands

جميع الطير بين يديه ألقت

مع افعجاب أجنحة المطار

All the birds before it cast

Their wings admiring the flight

وما هو غير إحساس شريف

شعرت بأنه في النفس جاري

It is nothing but a noble feeling

That felt it flowing in the soul

وحسبك بالشعور إذا ترقى

وأجرى سلسبيله في المجاري

It suffices you that the feeling excels

And flows its tributaries in the courses

فكم بعث الحياة إلى نفوس

فأرجعها وكانت في احتضار

So how much did it bring life to souls

That were dying and revived them

وقلدها شريط العز فخرا

فبات الشأن مرفوع المنار

And collared them with the honour band proudly

So the matter became an elevated beacon

وكم نفثت به الألباب سحرا

وكم أجرى ببحره من جوار

And how much did minds infuse in it magic

And made its sea flow generosity

وكم رضعت لبانه من شعوب

صغار فارتقت به للكبار

And how many nations sucked its nectar

When young then grew with it

وكم رفعوا به للحق صوتا

فأصبح لابسا تاج الوقار

And how high was raised by it a voice for truth

That it wore the crown of dignity

وكم نهضت به همم وهبت

على الضعفاء أرواح انتصار

And how many wills were risen by it

That gave defeated souls victory

إلى التاريخ في الأمم اللواتي

طواها الدهر نظرة ذي اعتبار

To history in nations

That time buried with consideration

ودونك من دنانه كأس راح

تنوب لديك عن كأس العقار

I have for you from his flasks a drink

That stands for you instead of medicine

ولا تشرب بأقداح صغار

فقد ضاق الزمان عن الصغار

Do not drink from small cups

For time has become too short for smallness

وشنف بالمكارم كل سمع

ورددها بسجعات الكناري

And sharpen every hearing with generosity

And chant them in beautiful cadences

وخصص من بنات الفكر جوقا

فعشاق الرواية في انتظار

And set aside for thoughts’ daughters a band

For lovers of singing await

وسر بين الورى سير اعتدال

وكن من حاسديك على حذار

And walk among the people with moderation

And beware those envious of you

وفند ما تقوله المناوي

بتحقيقات حبر ذي اقتدار

And refute what adversaries say

With the proofs of influential ink

وقل من للعنادل كان يصغي

فلا يصغي لتنهيق الحمار

And say “Who would listen to nightingales

Then listen to braying of donkeys?”

وحافظ عن كيانك في وجود

ولا تنظر له نظر احتقار

And guard your existence with pride

And do not look at it with contempt

وبادر في الرياض لقطف زهر

فإن العود أصبح في اخضرار

And take the lead in the garden to pluck a flower

For the wood has become green

وحدث عن جدودك بالمزايا

ولو كانت مزاياهم كنار

And talk of your ancestors’ merits

Even if their merits are embers

ودبج في الصحائف ما روينا

ليصبح ما رقمته في انتشار

And write in pages what we related

To become what you composed propagated

فحبات الجواهر في انتظام

وطاقات الأزاهر في انتشار

For beads of pearls are in harmony

And petals of flowers are scattering

وقل تزكو شبيبتنا إذا ما

جنان الفكر منها في ازدهار

And say “Our youth is purified if

The gardens of thought become prosperous in it

وقاوم ما أقامتك الدواعي

من العقبات أحجار العثار

And resist what motives raise for you

Of rocks of adversity

وحرض عن صحيحات المبادي

جهارا في جهار في جهار

And openly elicit correct principles

Announcing loudly, loudly, loudly

وقل هذا شعور الشعب أبدى

أمانيه لتصبح في اشتهار

And say “This is what people feel, showing

Their hopes to become public

وخذ بيمينه نحو المعالي

وخض مع من يخوضه في الغمار

And take them by the hand to the heights

And plunge with whoever plunges into fray

ولج باب الحظوظ وقل سلام

على الأحرار في هذي الديار

And enter the gate of fortunes and say “Peace

Upon the free in these lands”

ولا تنظر لنفسك بازدراء

فما سخر الحديد سوى البخار

And do not look upon yourself with contempt

For has iron been humiliated except by steam?

وحيعل في الأنام على اتحاد

لينطق جمعنا بفم افتخار

And unite people in solidarity

So our assembly speaks proudly

فإن الصفر ينطق بانضمام

مع الأرقام في العدد الغباري

For zero speaks by joining

Numbers in the dusty sum

وفي كنف الأمير لنا ذمار

ومثله من يذب عن الذمار

And in the prince’s care we have supporters

And the like of him who protects supporters

وفي تصريحه الرسمي معنى

يدل على مساعيه الكبار

And in his formal statement there is meaning

That shows his great efforts

وفي ذاك التنازل منه مغزى

يشف عن التنازل باختيار

And in that concession from him there is meaning

That clarifies his deliberate concession

وفي ذاك الصنيع لنا دليل

ينم على أياديه الغزار

And in that action for us evidence

That indicates his generous hands

وفي الوطن العزيز لنا أماني

يحقّقها السياسيّ المداري

And in the precious homeland we have hopes

That the reasonable politician fulfils

فكن يابن البلاد حليف صدق

وإخلاص وقل هذا شعاري

So be, son of the countries, allied with honesty

And sincerity and say “This is my motto”

ودونك في المطالب من صداها

سميعا رافعا صوت الحصار

And note down demands whose echoes

Are heard by you raising voice of embargo

وشاهد من بوارقها بريقا

يريك بأنّ زند الحق وار

And witness flashes of light from them

Showing you the spark of truth kindling

وقل إنا فتحنا اليوم بابا

إلى الإنصاف مرفوع الستار

And say, “We opened today a door

To justice with curtains lifted up”

وردد صوتك الرنان فيها

رنين الأكرمين من النضار

And echo your ringing voice in it

The ringing of the best of the youth

وسر بك للأمام وقل هلموا

إلى الدستور هيّا للبدار

And go ahead and say “Come

To constitution, come to revolt”

لنلبس تونس الخضراء تاجا

وينزع شعبنا ثوب الصغار

To dress green Tunisia a crown

And our people remove dress of childhood
