روضا غرسته في الحياة نضيرا

عش رغم موتك يا أبي مشكورا

A garden I planted in life, a peer

Live on despite your death, O my father, gratefully

علمتني معنى الحياة ببزك ال

أبوين فاسكن جنّة وحريرا

You taught me the meaning of life with your guidance

O parents, so reside in Heaven and silk

أحسنت تربيتي فبت مراعيا

أحكام ما قررته تقريرا

You raised me well, so you remained considerate

Of the rules you established firmly

أوصيتني بالدين حتى خلتكم

محييه مذ شاهدت منك نظيرا

You advised me about religion until you left

Reviving it since I saw a peer in you

لم لا وصالح عصره ابن ملوكة

سماك منجيا فكان مشيرا

Why not when a son of a queen, your contemporary

His name saved him so he was an advisor

كنت النزيه العرض حتى أن من

عادي أباك رأيت منه نصيرا

You were of flawless honor that even one

Who was your father's enemy I saw as a supporter

هذي الشهادة وحدها تكفي وهب

ما بعد ذلك لم يكن مذكورا

This testimony alone suffices, and give

What comes after was not mentioned

ذكروك بالحسنات في زمن الصبا

والعز لم تك وقتها مغرورا

They mentioned you with good deeds in the days of youth

And glory you were not arrogant at that time

ورفضت دعوة من دعاك لخطة

عظمى وأرجعت الوظيف حقيرا

And you refused the invitation of one who invited you to

A great plan and you returned the lowly job

أظهرت بالشيم الكريمة عندها

شمما وإن كنت الصغير كبيرا

You showed with noble manners back then

Perception even if you were young, mature

تدري بأنك فوق كل وظيفة

شرفا وكنت ولا جدال جديرا

You know that you have honor over any job

And you were undoubtedly worthy

من بيتك ارتفعت بيوت للورى

حتى استحقت بينها التصديرا

From your house rose houses for people

Until it deserved among them precedence

الأم والأب في البلاد كلاهما

ركن المجادة لو غدوت فخورا

The mother and father in both countries

Are the pillar of glory if you become proud

هذي من البيت الحسني درة

ضمت له الشرف المطهر نورا

This is a pearl from the good family

That contained for it the purified honor and light

وأبوك مخدوم الزمان وزيره

لو كان غدارا لبات أميرا

And your father is the leader of the times and its minister

Even if he were a traitor, he would be a prince

وتقلبت فيك الليالي إنما

غالبتها فردا وكنت صبورا

And the nights tossed against you, but

You overcame them with patience and endurance

لم تسط راحتها عليك ولم تحط

من قدرك الأسمى ولو قطميرا

It did not extend its comfort upon you and did not decrease

From your supreme destiny even a little

جاوزت حدا في العفاف كأنما

هو وجه من تهوى فعشت وقورا

You exceeded the limit in chastity as if

It is the face of one you love so you lived demurely

لم أنس زائرك الذي وافاك في ال

مرسى وكان إلى الحماة سفيرا

I do not forget your visitor who met you in

The harbor and was to Hama an ambassador

يدعوك للخطط الرفيعة يهتدي

بهداك فيها مرتضيك وزيرا

Inviting you to the lofty plans, guided

By your guidance in them, approving you as minister

فرأيت والهادي اصطفاك لنفسه

إذ ذاك يحسب لو قبلت نفورا

But I saw the Guide chose you for himself

Back then counting that if you accepted aloofness

فشكرت معرضه ولست بمعرض

عنه فعاد وعدك المعذورا

So you thanked his rejection and you are not rejecting

Him so he returned counting you excused

وتخلصت للفضل نفسك حيث لم

تك جاهلا ما يلحق المأمورا

And you freed your soul to virtue when you were not

Ignorant of what befalls the commissioned

وقنعت منها بالشريط محليا

صدر الشريف فزدته تنويرا

And you sufficed from it with the local cordon

The chest of the noble so you increased its illumination

هذي شمائلك التي خلدتها

تحيى بذكرك للنفوس شعورا

These are your features that immortalized

Reviving souls with the feelings they evoke

مهدت لي طرق النشيد وهذه

أنشودتي قد زدتها تعطيرا

You paved the way for me in poetry and this

My chant I have further perfumed

كنت الحريض على اكتسابه كلما

أنشدت بيتا منه بت قريرا

You were the motivator for me to acquire whenever

I recited a verse from it you were pleased

أبتي عليك غوادق الرحمات إذ

لا زلت أجني من رضاك زهورا

Upon you the clouds of mercy, as

I still reap from your satisfaction, flowers

أبقيت لي وأخي بخطك دعوة

سطرتها لبرورنا تسطيرا

You left for me and my brother in your writing a prayer

You scripted it for our piety sincerely

هي أنفس الموروث عن ىبائنا

كنزا إلى يوم النشور وفيرا

It is the best inherited from our fathers

A treasure until the Day of Resurrection abundant

هذا الوظثف إذا وهذا أمره

بين البرية لم يزل منشورا

This position, so this is its order

Between sanctity it has not stopped being disseminated

لا زلت أشهد بالجميل مشاهدا

سر المبرة مطلقا وأسيرا

I still testify to kindness witnessing

The secret of piety absolutely and restricted

تنهال كالديم الكوارث إنما

تنجاب عن شمس تريك النورا

Like rain the calamities pour but

You see the sun showing you the light

أجني المحامد يا أبي بهداك لي

شكرا لربك فلتنم مأجورا

I reap praise, my father, due to your guidance so

Thank your Lord and sleep rewarded

قد كنت ترجو للبلاد غارفا

من بحر جدي لؤلؤا منثورا

You used to hope for the country collecting

From the sea of effort pearls spread

وتركت لي الآثار أخطو تلوها

منه وأفعمت الطروس بحورا

And you left me the traces to follow them

And to understand the seas deeply

تهدي بفكرك فلذة الكبد الذي

أعددته للصالحات خفيرا

You guide the dear child you

Prepared for good deeds as a guard

كنت المدرس لي بما أمليته

عني لتعبتث من بنيك بشيرا

You were my teacher in what you dictated

To me so you tired from your children a bearer of good news

وترى الحوادث في الحياة مدارسا

أمعنت فيها بيننا التفكيرا

And you see events in life as schools

You pondered them between us thoughtfully

ولذاك كنت الفرد مطلعا على

كنه الحقائق بالأمور خبيرا

And that's why you were unique, informed

About the essence of truths, expert in matters

أخلصت لي في النصح حتى أصبحت

عندي بشيرا مهجتي ونذيرا

You were sincere to me in advice until you became

In my eyes a bearer of good news, and a warner

علمتني معنى التجلد والوفا

بالعهد والتهليل والتكبيرا

You taught me the meaning of perseverance and loyalty

To the covenant, glorification and exaltation

نفّرتني من كل ما توحيه لي

نفسي الخبيثة فاطهرت ضميرا

You deterred me from all that my wicked

Soul suggested to me, so you purified my conscience

صغّرت لي الدنيا وأكبرت النهى

فيها وما أهدى العقول مسيرا

You belittled the world for me and magnified avoidance

In it and what guides minds effectively

كنت الغيور وتلك أشرف خلة

ما بالفتى من لم تجده غيورا

You were protective and that is the noblest trait

That a young man can have, do not find him protective

تنوي لقطرك كل خير ساخطا

عما به ترجو له التعميرا

You intend for your country all good, angry

At what through which you wish for it rebuilding

ها أنت يا أبتي تجرّ على يدي

حير الإيالة غيبة وحضورا

The confusion of the state, absence and presence

You showed between people what you harbored

أظهرت بين الناس ما أضمرته

زمنا لهم وأتيتهم موقورا

For a time for them and you came to them dignified

And you sent me to do good, striving, calling

وبعثت بي للخير أسعى داعيا

أتلو عليهم ذلك التحريرا

I recite to them that script

O people, listen to my journey and heed

يا أيها المللأ اسمعو سفري وعوا

فإذا وعيتم تمنحوا الدستوار

for when you understand, you will be granted amnesty

I was named after my father, wishing well

سميت باسم أبي الحفيد تيمنا

باسميهما وتعطفا وبرورا

By both their names, affection and piety

So that I will be among the outstanding Al-Shaathli

ليكون بين المنجبين الشاذلي

يجني ثمار نجاته مسرورا

Reaping fruits of my salvation, joyful
