يا صهر جدي رحمة لكما فلي

درس أرى لي الحق في إقرائه

ورآك أهلا للرقي فبت في

أسمى المراتب جالسا بإزائه

And he saw you worthy of advancement, so you remained

In the highest positions, sitting opposite him

لكن رأيت الحق فوق صنيعه

لو كان حقا بت من نصرائه

But I saw the truth above his making

If it were true, you would have remained among his supporters

فتخالفت آراؤكم وتضاربت

واعتز كل في حمى آرائه

So your opinions differed and conflicted

And everyone was proud of the protection of their views

جدي يرى دفع المضرة أولا

لا سيما الضرغام في غلوائه

My grandfather sees removing harm first

حتى إذا نجحت مساعيه التي

كانت لسوء الحظ أصلا بلائه

يرجو على التوفيق نهضة مسلم

قد كان حقا للكتاب محافظا

بسعى ولا تثريب في إعلائه

He was truly the protector of the book

With effort and no reproach in raising it

ويراه نورا والزمان معاكس

لم يخط إذ لم يسع في إطفائه

And he sees it as light while the times oppose

He did not err when he could not put it out

ورأيت فعل الدهر يشعر أنه

إذن إلهي آمر بجلائه

And I saw the work of fate indicating that it is

A divine order commanding its appearance

والدين أخره الزمان مراحلا

والذنب محمول على علمائه

And religion delayed it stages

And the sin is attributed to its scholars

ورأى المطامع حوله منشورة

كل يدس السم في استدوائه

And he saw ambitions surrounding it

Everyone slips poison into its remedy

ومصارع الأيام وهي حوادث

كشفت لك الأحوال عن أنبائه

And the arenas of days, which are events

Revealed the conditions to you about their news

وهو المدافع وحده بطرائق

حفظت مكانته لدى غرمائه

And he is the only defender with methods

That preserved his position with his opponents

كانت له طرق يدق خفاؤها

واليوم لا وجه إلى إخفائه

He had ways whose secrecy was subtle

بدأ النظام بفتح مدرسة إلى ال

جند النظامي وهي من إنشائه

وهو الذي فتح المجالس معلنا

في الناس بالقانون طبق رجائه

واستحلف الملك المشير وجملة ال

وزراء والعلماء في إجرائه

Ministers and scholars swear to implement it

هذا وفي التعطيل سر غامض

إذ كنت بعده لم تفض من مائه

ولعلها هي حجة بقيت إلى

هذا الزمان على يدي ظلمائه

And you would have seen their diligent efforts together towards the

شاهدت في باريس ما شاهدته

عدلا أراك البدر في لألائه

فوددت لو كانت بلادك مثلها

لولا الأمير يهيم في أهوائه

والخير كل الخير في استنوائه

لترى به تلك الأماني أصبحت

تجري بقطرك منه في أنحائه

لكن رأينا الأمر بعد وقوعه

لم يجد نفعا في طلول بنائه

مهدت فيها للحماة طرائقا

إذ يصبحوا للقطر من خفرائه

رجو العدالة والحضارة والرقي

والحق هم للعدل من حلفائه

قم أيها الرجل النصوح مشاهدا

حال ابن هذا العصر في خضرائه

لا شك أنك تستشيط لحالنا

غضبا وتغدو اليوم من خصمائه

انظر مدارسها وقف برسومها

وسل الطلول ومن بها عن دائه

وأعر بربك لفتة للصادقي

ة معهدا أودى وقف نفنائه

أولست موصيهم وصاة مؤسس

ذهب الوصي وخاب في إيصائه

عملوا ولكن عكس ما أملته

قد ضاع حقك في يدي وكلائه

كم كنت تشكو الظلم واستبدادهم

وتجد في الإصلاح واستجلائه

فأجرتنا لكن بعمرو إننا

كالمستجير نراك من رمضائه

ألقيتنا في يد الكواسر ليتنا

لم نستجرك به على أمرائه

بتنا وبات القطر أسوأ حالة

مما شكوت وظل في برحائه

عجبا لمثلك كيف يرجو نصرة

تأتي لنصر الحق من أعدائه

كم كنت للصهر الكريم مخطئا

رغم ارتقاء هلالكم بسمائه

وأراد دفع الشر وهو مقدم

شرعا فعم غدوت من خصمائه

ما كان أغنى الناكثين بعهده

عما أتوا وأحقهم بوفائه

هذا الزمان أرى الأنام مآلهم

وسعى ولا تثريب في إيرائه

لو كان في قيد الحياة كلاهما

لرأيت خيرهما ارتدى بردائه

ورأيت سعيهما الحثيث معا إلى الد

ستور متفقين في إعطائه

حاشاهما وهما من الشهدا على ال

والي وهم إذ ذاك من وزرائه

هذي خطوطهما لديك شهيدة

والخط شاهدكم على إنشائه

غفر الإله رعاية لكليهما

مذ وافق الرجلان عن إجرائه

قد خلفاه إلى البلاد ذخيرة

عظمى ويربو البر من عظمائه

فلتشكروا جدي الوزير وصهره

شكر الحريض على رضا آبائه

ولتتركوا ما كان بينهما ولا

تسعواى بربكمو لكشف غطائه

فالله يغفر للجميع وما جرى

ما قد جرى إلا بحكم قضائه
