    هذا المراد وهذا غاية الأمل

    I refuse all but to clothe myself in bashfulness before you;

this is my desire, and this the utmost reach of hope.

At every moment you show me a sign that has ordained

prostration before you, for you keep me wholly engrossed.

Never did my head rise from its prostrations

except for another—without complaint or weariness.

Prostrations of thanks we offered before our Creator

for what has come to you, and for what was inscribed from all eternity.

By God, how many virtues of yours we witness!

How august a man you are among the people!

For you, on the day of poetry, we secured a finely wrought poem,

just as we acquired beehives for honey.
