1. يا سفر سيفر وإن خطوك بالذهب

    السيف أصدق أنباء من الكتب

    O journey, journey on though your steps be of gold,

    The sword is more truthful than books manifold.

  2. حلم لذيذ تقضّى في معاهدة

    أمست ممزقة الأطراف بالقضب

    A sweet dream fulfilled in a treaty,

    That ended up torn, battered by rods.

  3. ألقى صحيفته اليونان مقتنعا

    من الغنيمة يا للعار بالهرب

    Greece conceded its paper convinced,

    Of the spoils - what disgrace in escape!

  4. ظلت أمانيه تذروها الرياح وقد

    تقشعت عن محيا الترك كالسحب

    Its hopes left adrift by the winds when

    Serenity lifted from the Turks' brows like clouds.

  5. فاستوضحوه هلالا فوق رايته

    يلقي الأشعة عن عجم وعن عرب

    So they made it a crescent moon over the banner

    Shedding rays on Persian and Arab alike.

  6. قامت له الترك إجلالا تؤيّده

    وأيدتها اليد البيضاء في الحقب

    The Turks rose to honor it, backing it

    As the white hand backed it through the ages.

  7. هي البطولة لم تبرح لهم سمة

    أكرم بها حسبا ناهيك من حسب

    It's heroism, their lasting hallmark

    With which they ennobled lineage, let alone lineage itself.

  8. تروي الورى ذكرهم عن صارم ذكر

    عن ساح الحرب عن أفراسها الشهب

    History tells of their famed, decisive fame -

    Of the battleground, the horses charging like flame.

  9. تبني على الفتح ما شادته جازمة

    بالرفع من شأنها خفضا لمنسحب

    It builds on the conquests its firm resolutions,

    Raising its stature, humbling those withdrawn.

  10. هذي المآثر في القارات خالدة

    دل المسبب تحقيقا على السبب

    These glorious feats on the continents endure

    Proof positive of cause from effect.

  11. سلوا الملاحم إذ يحمى الوطيس بها

    سلوا المعامع عن فرسانها النجب

    Ask the epics, for they protect its loam,

    Ask the flashings about its noble horsemen.

  12. في الآستانة كم من آية ظهرت

    للفاتحين وكم جاؤوك بالعجب

    In Istanbul, how many a sign appeared

    For the conquerors - how much wonder they brought!

  13. نعم الأمير رويناه لفاتحها

    عن الرسول وخير القول قول نبي

    What a fine amir we have seen in its conqueror

    From the Messenger, and best words are prophetic.

  14. الدردنيل وهم أسد العرين به

    من يوم فتحه لم يخضع لمغتضب

    The Dardanelles, as lions guarding their lair

    Since he opened it, submit to no enraged.

  15. يزداد يوما فيوما في جلالته

    يسعى مجدا إلى العلياء في طلب

    Daily he grows, ever more majestic,

    Seeking glory, to the highest aspirations.

  16. نادى إلى البحر يا جيشي هناك قفوا

    فانساب سيل من الأفراس في خبب

    He called to the sea, "My army, stop here!"

    And a tide of steeds surged over the dunes.

  17. ما كان أجمل في أزمير طلعته

    يا حسن ثغره مفترا على شنب

    How lovely was his rising in Smyrna -

    The beauty of its shores spread over fangs.

  18. شفى قلوبا تلقته على ظمإ

    لولاه ما انفكت الأكباد في لهب

    Healing hearts that received him in thirst

    Else livers kept burning in fiery pangs.

  19. قد قيض اللّه للأوطان منتقما

    من كل معتسف للشر منتسب

    God has sent an avenger for the nations

    From each miscreant affiliated with evil.

  20. ما حل إلا وحل النصر أنبع من

    ظل وأشهى إلى الأسماع من طرب

    He came and with him came victory, gushing

    Delight into ears, sweeter than melody.

  21. ساق الأسارى مع القواد صاغرة

    نحن الأناضول ملقاة مع السلب

    He brought the captives with the generals humbled,

    "We are Anatolia, fallen with the spoils."

  22. خابت ظنون بني اليونان وانعكست

    تلك الأماني وضاع الحلم بالأرب

    Failed the hopes of Greece's sons, reversed,

    Those wishes lost, the dream of gain gone.

  23. ظلت بقاياه في الأنحاء شاردة

    لم تدر أيان مرساها من التعب

    Its remnants scattered in the regions, wandering,

    Not knowing where to steer its fatigue.

  24. قد أذعرتها ليوث الترك فانتشرت

    منها شعاعا ولج الروم في اللجب

    The Turkish lions terrified it till it dispersed

    A flash among them, and Greece plunged into vales.

  25. لا عاصم اليوم من عصمت فينقذها

    ولات رأفة من رافت على الغلب

    No refuge now from the refuge it took, none saves it,

    No pity from the pity it showed the defeated.

  26. لاقت يداها من الأحرار ما اقترفت

    لما استطالت رماها اللّه بالعطب

    It met from the noble what it had perpetrated.

    When it overreached, God afflicted it with decay.

  27. مغرورة ساقها للنطع منهضها ل

    ويد جورج الخرف المشغوف بالشغب

    Deluded, it roused its biting till,

    Incited by the senile George, crazed with havoc,

  28. في روعها كيفما شاءت سياسته

    ألقى الدسائس بل في جحرها الخرب

    It thought in its rage its policy however it wished

    Would foil the schemes. But ruin burrowed within.

  29. فاستأسدت حيث أنساها محرشها

    ما هؤلاء فلاقتهم على كثب

    So it turned lion where it forgot its prodding -

    "Who are these?" - and faced them in droves.

  30. غطت على طرفها الأطماع فانخدعت

    وساقها الجشع الممقوت للحرب

    It hid its greed beneath a veneer and was fooled,

    Led by accursed avarice into war.

  31. خابت وخاب سياسيا مؤيدها

    والتف منتحب منهم بمنتحب

    Failed, as failed its supporter in policy,

    They clustered lamenting in groups.

  32. لاذت إلى اصلح وانحلت عزائمها

    مما اعتراها وما لاقته من لغب

    It resorted to better and its resolves dissolved

    From what afflicted it and what coarseness it met.

  33. واستمنحت هدنة تبقي على رمق

    لولا تورطها للرشد لم تثب

    It sued for truce to keep a flicker,

    Had it not blundered, it would not have wavered.

  34. لم يشف إسقاط قسطنطين غلتها

    ولا اشتهار فنيزيلوس بالخطب

    Neither the fall of Constantinople sated it

    Nor Phanariotes famed for their speeches,

  35. للترك قد تركت رغما طراكية

    واستنزفت دمعة حرا لمكتئب

    To the Turks it grudgingly left, against its grain,

    And bitterly wept over its depressed state.

  36. لولا البواتر في أيدي الأباة قضت

    بالحق لم تعط ما أعطت ولم تهب

    Had it not been for ships in the hands of unbowed men

    Who decreed rightfully, it would not have given or granted.

  37. وهكذا الحق لولا السيف يظهره

    لم يحترم ربه فينا ولم يهب

    Thus without the sword, right cannot shine,

    Nor would our Lord esteem or grant us worth.

  38. للّه يوم بموادنية انعقدت

    فيه معاهدة الغازي الفتى الدرب

    God ordained on the day the treaty was concluded,

    With that noble young hawk well-trodden in war.

  39. عصمت وحسبك عصمت في سياسته

    وأنه عن كمال خير منتدب

    You guaranteed and you guaranteed well in your policy,

    Being commissioned for the utmost excellence.

  40. أملى شروطا تلقوها كما عرضت

    واستصوبوها ولولا السيف لم تصب

    You dictated terms they accepted as presented,

    Approving them - without the sword, they would not have poured.

  41. وبات يخطب ود المسلمين بها

    مذ خطها القلم الملي بالذهب

    And you began addressing Muslims with affection,

    Since that golden pen inscribed them.

  42. واستسلمت لندن للأمر صاغرة

    واستتبع الرأس في لأواه بالذنب

    London acquiesced to the matter humbled,

    The head followed the tail in its burrows.

  43. وانحاز للترك من فازت سياسته

    وكان أجدر في الميدان باللعب

    Those of proven policy rallied to the Turks,

    Better disposed on the battlefield to the game.

  44. واستثمر بوانكري لفرنكلان جني

    غرس لغورو فأرضى العنصر العربي

    Boulogne exploited gains for Frankland

    Gurgo planted an orchard appeasing the Arab.

  45. لو لم تجب طلبة الأتراك لانفجرت

    في العالمين براكين من الغضب

    Had the Turks' request not been met, in both worlds

    Volcanoes of wrath would have erupted.

  46. يا مصطفى المصطفى راض عليك فحز

    هذا الرضا شرفا يا خير منتخب

    O Mustafa, the chosen one, may you be pleased,

    For pleasing you is an honor, O best of the elect!

  47. حيتك تونس فلتقبل تحيتها

    عن روض شعري بباقات من الأدب

    I salute you, Tunisia, so relay the greetings

    From a garden of poetry with bouquets of literature.

  48. في شخصك الأمة السمحاء قد برزت

    تختال بالنصر في أثوابها القشب

    Through you the noble nation has emerged

    Strutting in victory, in its rough garb.

  49. واعتز شأن بني الإسلام واحتفلت

    كل الممالك واهتزت من الطرب

    Esteem of the Muslim people is bolstered,

    All kingdoms celebrate and tremble with joy.

  50. فاحلل بمكة كي تنحل عقدتها

    واسجد هناك لرب البيت واقترب

    So come perform the pilgrimage, to untie its knot,

    And bow there to the Lord of the House, draw near.
