من لي بوصفه يوما في محاكمة

مذ عزني القول تفصيلا وإجمالا

Who can describe that trial day for me

When eloquence pained me, in detail or briefly

سارت به سفن الإحساس في مهج

توافة جررت بالتيه أذيالا

The ships of feeling sailed in a tide

With tails that ignited bewilderment and fire

ساقوا ثلاثة أبطال فسيق لهم

شعب بأسره تكريما وإجلالا

Three heroes were led in, so for them

A whole nation marched, honoring and extolling

كل يحاول أن تلقى جريمتهم

عليه أكرم بهم في الناس أبطالا

Each trying to cast their crimes upon him

The most honorable of men to people, heroes

تفرق الجيش فيما بينهم جذعا

مستظهرا قضبا فيهم وأغلالا

The army split between them helplessly

Restrained and in shackles, powerless

وما تفرق جمع ليس يرهبه

شيء ولا خافض للرأس إذلالا

No gathering stays undivided by fear

Nothing makes them bow their heads in humiliation

نادى الجميع ليحي الحزب والزعما

للّه حزبك قوالا وفعّالا

All called for the revival of the party and leadership

For the party of God in word and deed

ألقى العميد على العصر الجديد يدا

فاقتاد من صحف الخضراء جوالا

The general threw his hand to the new age

And led the possessors of green passports

واتنطق الحكم محي الدين فانتشرت

آذان ملتقط من فيه أمثالا

The ruling judge revived religion, so ears spread

Catching proverbs from the mouths of speakers

فشاهدوا الحر يلقي الدر منتظما

وشاهد الحر إعجابا وأقبالا

They saw the noble man systematically casting pearls

And the noble man drawing wonder and crowds

والتوأمان وما أدراك ما فعلا

في موقف الفضل ولتعجب بما قال

The two twins, who knows what they have done

In the stance of superiority, how amazing what was said

خصمان في الجرم كل يدعيه وقد

أضحى فخورا بدعواه ومختالا

Two opponents in crime, each claiming it, already

Become proud of his claim, arrogant

والرابع الشهم مستاء لنبوته

من بين رهطه ما أزهاه رثبالا

The fourth, the valorous, angry at his prophecy

Amongst his comrades, how vile his slander

والشاهدون على الأعمال مخجلة

ما كان أفظعها واللّه أعمالا

The witnesses to the deeds were ashamed

None more monstrous, by God, than their deeds

مما رويته عنهم في شهادتهم

شاهدت فيه من الأهوال تمثالا

What I relayed about their testimonies

I saw among the horrors a symbol

هذا سجين ولا يدري له سببا

قضى السنين كما شاؤوه إهمالا

This prisoner who does not know why

Spent years as they willed, neglected

وذا نشيط وهذا الوصف بحرمه

حقا فألقت على الأفواه أقفالا

This one is dynamic, and that description suits him

Truly, so mouths were locked

وذاك نسبته للحرب مانعة

ما كان يمنحه لو كان مخذالا

And that one, his association with war prevented

What it would have granted had he been derelict

كل المشاريع أبقتها معطلة

لم تبغ إلا صعاليكا وجهالا

All the projects remained stalled

Seeking only villains and ignoramuses

أدلى الشهود بما أدلوا وأيّدهم

ودق المحامين مذ قد سح سيالا

The witnesses testified as they did, supported

By the lawyers once the flood poured

واستؤنف الحكم حيث الحاكمون قضوا

بما يزيد على ما قص بلبالا

And the ruling was appealed where the judges ruled

More than the first sentence hoped for

وسحلته يد التاريخ مفخرة

تروى على الدهر أجيالا فأجيالا

And the hand of history dragged it gloriously

To narrate to generations, after generations
